Once they create a tornado or something equally destructive, I doubt they have much control over it. Also, pegasi are fast, and unicorns have magic, so they'd all be pretty equally matched.

I think either the pegasi or the unicorns (becuase EP are inferior I still love them )

I'm inclined to pick the pegasi since they have the maneuverability advantage, plus they can control the weather

However Earth Ponies can grow crops, thus they would be able to survive a longer, more drawn out war. That and considering Pinkie Pie's ability they probably have some sort of reality warping powers as well.

A pegasus army would be good at hit and run tactics, but they'd probably have no durability.

This is assuming that the civil war will be based on race, rather than political ideology. So we need to take in account of other towns in Equistria as well.

And what about the elephant nations? You can't ignore foreign relations in a civil war.

Exactly, The pegasi would probably be able to contact the Griffin nation to give out supplies. Seeing as most Pegasi and Griffin seem to be able to get along.

If I've learned anything from Civ IV, it's that elephants suck at warfare.

Only way to beat Earth Ponies it make it fast because they are good at Attrition warfare. And Unicorns are ones you need quick victory against others because they don't survive long war but they have advantage in magic and technology.

It's more interesting concept not for civil war but some pre Equestria war between races.

Yes, I'm simply assuming of course. Though there is no reason to imply that the Pegasi aren't friends with the Griffons. Using Hilda as an example, I would assume that the Griffons are a totalitarian regime ruled by a matriarchal lunatic who's ambitions include becoming the superior aviation species. So like Nazi Germany did to the Japanese, the pegasi would be considered an "Honorary flight" species that are considered to be "true feathers" of an otherwise "Inferior ground dwellers". The reason why Hilda dislikes all the other ponies is that she considers them truly inferior to the flight species.

I imagine the equestrians would have to rely on the heavy hitting power of the princesses in order to take any kind of offensive against them.

Well, in my fic, the ponies are at war with the boars...

...on a one to one basis, the boars can trounce ponies...but the ponies have superior weapons and tactics.

And I don't thing dragons have coutry, and ponies have propalby good relations with some wingless dragons.

It always amazes me how much people assume things about Griffons based on the behavior of one (though I'm guessing Pink Heart Chainsaw is being mostly facetious).

I personally like to think of Griffons as an entire society of Surfer Dudes, but in the sky. No real reason except that it would be hilarious.
