Yeah, I still find it kind of hilarious.

I don't have a very strong attachment to my own fanon/headcanon, but I am waiting for the next episode before I start my fic.

Lauren said "May The Best Pet Win" was written a year ago. What was a year ago? November. How many episodes of Season 1 were out then? How much fanon existed then? I don't think Lauren herself learned about bronies until December...

We still have a ways to go before we start getting Fandom Nods beyond background pony placement I think.

Brony fanon grows almost as fast as Touhou fanon these days, maybe even faster. Only thing they need now are god-tier musicians like Iron Attack and Silver Forest and dbu.

What was Touhu again? I forgot. (Maybe because I only hear about this when some Bronies compare this to MLPFIM).

Touhou is a series of Bullet Hell games with a frightening amount of fanon and fanwork.

Something about the setting and good character designs (and lack of decent official artwork for them) inspires it.

^That sounds rather a lot like FiM, now that you put it that way. =) (Those vectors we see on merchandise and such are weird.)

And I never encounter in any place on internet.

But at least MLP actually HAS a plot and awesome art without us

The things that make Touhou a bigger name than Wal-mart:

1. All the characters are girls. 2. All the characters have designs unique enough that you can recognize them by profile or color combinations alone. 3. The music is really good. 4. The creator doesn't enforce copyright except to make sure nobody sells his games on their own. 5. It's been around a long time. 6. The games give just enough information to establish characters and hint at story, but doesn't elaborate beyond that.

I kinda want to learn more about Touhou now.

I've played a few of the games. I honestly didn't get the appeal (I mean from a story perspective, the gameplay was pretty good). All the characters came off as unlikeable assholes to me

Touhou is a fandom that keeps to itself. But make no mistake, it is huge.

The amount of fanmade remixes for the music measures in the terabytes. The amount of art is even more. Touhou circles make up a huge percentage of doujin circles at anime conventions. And it is crossed over with absolutely everything. Danbooru is a great place to get a sense of just how much fan-made content there is. Or you could just take a look at the size of the Touhou thread in our own forum.

Also, if you come across an anime-style piece of art that involves a character you don't know, there's an even chance that it's Touhou.

Touhou encompasses many things.

Like Friendship Is Magic, most of the cast are girls with interesting designs and sometimes-interesting personalities. The music is excellent, easily the best synthesizer/chiptune goodness I have enjoyed. The fantastic realm of Gensokyo is a lush, pseudo-utopian place that can be dangerous like Everfree if you are careless. The plots of the games are simple, and everything usually ends with tea parties at Reimu's shrine. Gensokyo itself teems with fantastic life, taken mainly from Asian and European mythologies rather than from Gary Gygax's D&D manuals. It even crosses over with everything else at a rate that ponies cannot match just yet.

It may not be everyone's taste but I still like it.

Horever Ponies are more easy to find on internet.

Can we NOT talk about Tohou? I really hate to be Death here, but Tohou leaves a bad taste in my mouth for some reason
