Well, hey, whattayaknow, there's already more info on the card game (scroll down)

Apparently you don't battle your opponents, you solve your problems before they can solve theirs.

Cards like that tend to be VERY useful, so entire decks can be built around them. A deck's mana content is usually pretty high too, about 24-26 out of 60 cards minimum.

For example, as I mentioned earlier I've seen a deck that had a sorcery that cost 10 Mana to cast... but it gave you as many creatures as you had health left. If you can get it out while you still have a reasonable number, you can then basically win in one or two turns, since there's no way your opponent will have any more than like, five or six monsters, unless they're using the same strategy.

So they're basically high cost/risk, high reward cards. As I understand it.

Oh wow, they actually did what I suggested. Now I feel all special.

You bring to the table a "main character" (spelling uncertain), a 50-card "draw" deck, and a 10-card "problem" deck, and you construct each of your decks to synergize with aspects of your character of choice.

That's pretty much what I thought it'd be (and it's very similar to Game of Thrones and it's Plot Deck) except that if you construct your own problem deck it seems like you'd be able to skew it too easily in your favor. If your problem deck is used against your opponent though, and them against yours, that makes a lot more sense. This is a really cool design for a ccg.

Anything with a high mana cost is basically a gamewinner. Fancy throwing a lot of 5/5 flying dragon tokens at the other guy? Also there are lots of ways to "cheat" such powerful, expensive spells onto the stack without paying full price. (coughcough TINKER coughcough)

[up][up] I'm kind of excited except that I know I'll never actually play it. I do now have 2 close brony friends... but they live in different parts of the country.

[up] I'm surprised the whole "Pink Filly Celestia" thing has lasted this long. I guess it does make sense though since Luna has shown that the princesses can alter their appearances.

Well like I said, it's the game of breaking the game.

I wonder if anyone's tried to do this using a computer. I suppose that takes some of the fun out of things, but with such a complex interplay of rules, it seems like it could be effective.

In other news, it occured to me that for ponies, race is probably a pretty big part of their identity. So it must be really weird for Twilight no longer being a unicorn. I wonder if they'll ever address that. Probably not, as it's a kids show.

A bot wouldn't be creative enough with rules to play Magic effectively. Too many cards, too many rules interactions that change the balance of power. Even a building-sized megaframe with several thousand computing blades would have difficulty acheiving tourney-tier Magic play.

Ace, that's shockingly prejudiced, especially considering who posted right before you. For shame.

@Storyeller: They kinda already did, in Equestria Girls. Twilight was clearly pretty uncomfortable with her newfound wings and her position as a princess. The whole loss of identity thing is pretty well wrapped up together in that.

Given Luna's S1 apparence, it's only logical to assume that Celestia had a single colored mane when she was younger too.

A bot wouldn't be creative enough with rules to play Magic effectively.

Now you've got me tempted to try, just to prove you wrong.

@Edzepp: As long as they don't delete Caroline form their memory.

Back when I was still playing MTG, I (almost) always built my decks around counterspells and milling. One of my favorite cards even does both at the same time.

Eh. you do realize that the variables change faster in an MTG duel and more drastically than any previously bot attempt could keep track. I've seen a bot lose because the human player deliberately threw off its predictions with deliberately suboptimal plays, and they all lose horribly to prison deck setups human players have less trouble breaking out of.

[up]I have decks in several flavors, but I keep going back to Tooth and Nail and Affinity.

Bots attempting to play card games traditionally results in epic fail.

Except for the pokemon card videogame. That one was surprisingly good.

I am currently watching a beer can on my desk move around on its own.

Okay, the can is empty and sitting on a puddle left by the previous beer can and there's a fan pointed in its direction, but...

The freaking beer can is moving around. It's almost hypnotic.

Time to continue with Applejack. I can't tell you all how happy you made me when you described her as cute and adorable. I was worried she was turning out to be the opposite.

On the other hand, I doubt much effort or study has been put into the field.

Yeah but VG AIs aren't supposed to be good, they're supposed to be fun to play against. They don't even play by the rules normally.
