Preset? There is no preset, only Constructed and Limited, and Constructed is only expensive once if you play Vintage/Legacy. Limited is perfectly affordable (a buncha boosters per Limited round) and you get some nice tradebait from it sometimes. The thing about Magic that makes it so flexible is the ever-evolving rules. I haven't even built any post-2008 decks with Planeswalkers in yet...

I kinda miss the old Extended, but I guess Modern is better. Built a cute Spellbomb Control deck (which had some serious old-school 3-Colour Control vibes straight out of Ancient Times circa pre-Urza's Brokenness) that actually shut out a bunch of Combo Decks I faced and even pinned a Control deck back in the Grand Prix. It also happens to be fast enough to kill milling decks somehow

As for decknames, either they go with the tribal theme (Goblins, Affinity, Elves), come up with a neat thematic name based on how the deck plays (Mill decks, Red Deck Wins, Stompy, Stax), or cute nicknames based on strategy (Omelette/Sunny Side Up, a fun recursion deck with Baubles galore that exploits Second Sunrise to pull them out of the Graveyard repeatedly; Prosbloom, the Prosperity/Cadevorous Bloom combo deck), or they're named for the Power Cards that make them work (Winter Orb, Tooth and Nail, Necro, Charbelcher).

I'm talking video game versions. Yugioh World Championship 20XX gives you access to all the cards and lets you make whatever you want. Magic 20XX Duels of the Planeswalkers gives you preset decks you can slightly modify.

It's a lot cheaper to buy a game than buy tons of booster packs so yeah.

It starts in November? I had thought that someone said it wouldn't be until winter (which would mean after December 21) and that it probably wouldn't be until January at the earliest so that's sooner than I expected! That will give American pony fans something to be thankful for on Thanksgiving this year!

So we've stumbled across card games... all due to me bringing up one equine question... I must have hit some bad level of notoriety with this.

Anyways, as for card games, I occasionally played a few yu-gi-oh duels, but nowadays, seems to have died out for me.

Still know how to play my old Tooth and Nail Deck with deadly effectiveness. Have fond memories of winning some promo cards from Friday Night Magic with it. All hail my super secret anti-control deck build which is deliberately designed to survive Obliterate somehow and still kill Affinity with ease!

In other news, Derpibooru seems to be having some server-side woes lately ._. Hope they can get it resolved.

Yeah, the only TCG I've ever really been into was the Pokemon one, and that was back in elementary school. Mainly because it was the only point in my life where there were other people around who were interested in that sort of thing. Magic: The Gathering is one of those things that I think I'd be interested in, but I don't have the time or money to invest in learning it and building a good deck, and even if I did I wouldn't have anyone to play against.

Macintosh Must Marry. Want to finish it before canon completely escapes me.

@JT: You could get into Casual/Modern or Limited, Limited play is basically cracking open Booster packs and building a deck with what you get. It's a lot more random than Constructed Play and won't cost as much as forking over around two grand for a full set of Vintage-class Power Cards plus Dual Lands plus Force of Will. Surprisingly I never spent that much on my Tooth deck, only had to buy Urza Lands, Plow Under, and Tooth for it, got everything else out of random boosters I mean, I did build the Unhinged black-bordered promo Basic Lands, but they were pretty so it was worth pimping up my deck to look good

you should look into trying out the Duels of the Planeswalkers games that are on Steam. the 2014 edition just came out not too long ago.

they're great for people just getting into the game.

I'll think about it, but I'm already splitting my time between too many hobbies as is.

i am okay with this.

I'm not sure if I should be filled with excitement over the date, or dread that S4 might be the final season and the show will never reach 100 episodes (Among other things).
