I have a few issues with those artists and writers (mostly on DA) whose works I followed before Friendship is Magic came along, and who, after that, completely abandoned what they used to do! John Josero used to draw human characters, but now, he uploads one pony piece every day, and suddenly this overall obscure online artist becomes a major guest at a ponycon and he's got more work shown on EQD than anyone else! It's not a very inspiring thing, to me - it's just.... off-putting.

[up][up]Well, ponies are a fairly recent, nigh omnipresent fad. It's a pretty easy way for online artists to get noticed.

Of course, when they get noticed, demand for ponies in their galleries increase...

If anything, I'm kind of more nonplussed by the fact that everyone and their brother has at least a one-shot pony picture. Bonus points if it's a ponysona.

[up][up]That's true. I know for a fact that some artist hardly get recognition unless they use fanfiction to promote themselves.

John had this webcomic called The Lounge. It could still be continuing... I have no idea, I haven't been keeping up with it for months... but his non-pony works weren't submitted nearly as quickly as his pony ones, and I wouldn't be surprised if The Lounge fell entirely into hiatuses or slower updates!

This isn't just directed at bronies either. I have issues with ANYONE who used to do fine, great-quality, original artwork and then, SOME SHOW APPEARS, and all of a sudden, it's their entire reason for being, like they got knocked in the head and got amnesia. Avatar is another major topic for this.

Peter Cullen should sue the writer of Twilight for making his family name look bad - or ask the Twins to prank her.

You have to consider that it's very hard for people to get noticed. Even Friendship is magic needed our hel to spread the word ( we share videos, discuss which episodes are better for" converting fans" etc).

People are creatures of impulse.

They can get so distracted and enthralled by things it completely absorbs them for a while.

Give it time for the brony phenomena to die down.

I'm sure theres many examples you could think of from any major fads you can remember from your childhood.

... I just effectively called a lot of people adult children.

Okay I can understand doing fanart to get more popular. But those title do not have to consume you as an artist.

I know about the Lounge, I used to read it a long time ago. When I recognized Joseco's art in pony' it was waving back at an old friend or something. Very weird. Also found weird after years of semi-struggling by with the comic it's the ponies that ramp up his enthusiasm.

I don't see anything wrong with 'converting' to another fandom when you find something else you like. I've written a crapton of fic for other stuff - Mahou Sensei Negima!, Mass Effect, One Piece - but my latest two fics have been pony-themed. There's nothing wrong with that; it's a natural process to move on in interests.

Besides, it's not like the artists personally owe you more of their previous art. You're not paying them; you have no input in what they draw.

Actually, that's the thing that got me thinking about it, but I was trying to think it more from a more fitting perspective for the show.

Most likely "crime in ponyville" plot would be burglars or thieves.
