re:John Joseco - He still does the comic. It's updated a couple times a week on average now. He finds time to balance that with the artwork he does (which happened before ponies came about), and you'd have to respect that. Honestly, I don't see why people complain.

I like to imagine that there IS a police force, but it's so underutilized that their members have actually FORGOTTEN that they're technically cops

Oh, they have a special power...the 'Coppers' Nose'...they can sense crime as it happens!

They walking down that street...two blocks away, a burglar is breaking into a house. The second they break the window open...the cop just stops, starts sniffing the air, goes into badass mode, and immediately russes round to the crime in progress!

And they all speak with really thick British accents and their main method of law enforcement is walking up to somepony doing something suspicious and saying "What's all this then?"

I dunno, I sort of get the feeling that the cops would either be bored out of their skulls and lazy, or jump over every little misdemeanor just so they have something to do.
