I still recommend Scrying, ie. seriously good at predicting movements via magic, or something. Though that stretches the definition of 'normal' by a bit.
So, I was talking to my roommate, and he has an interesting theory about Applejack: She's filthy rich, but always kinda hides it, because she associates richness with nastiness. It actually makes a fair bit of sense - for all the fact that she seems perpetually in financial trouble, she's never actually run into a real problem with it. I mean, despite her not making hardly any money at the GGG, she still apparently had enough money that nothing was in disrepair at the start of next season, and Granny seems to have her hip well in order at that. The town hall got fixed well enough after Last Roundup with no issues, despite AJ not winning any prize money, and I doubt a few weeks on a Cherry Farm would be enough to fix a building.
Family appreciation Day provides some hefty evidence, too. They're the founding family of what is rapidly becoming one of the most important towns in the country, and the major supplier of the major businessman in the area, with access to a extremely popular product nopony else produces. Rich would pay hoof over fist for that kind of deal - not to mention ponies still line up across the horizon for it and every other seasonal event they host. And that's not even considering the fact that again, they founded the town, but still live outside it. They wouldn't have to pay property tax because it's
their land, and all things considered there's a very real possibility they own the land the town sits on in some way. Either way, they're borderline aristocracy, and Aunt and Uncle Orange push that idea even further.
