I really mean it this time. As I explain in the doc, the kicker was comprise.

I was slightly worried about the two unicorns having the same colour hair (well, red and pink) but then I realized...bloody Twilight and Rarity almost have that. So...it's not a problem!

And I just got hit over the head with an idea so obvious I can't believe I didn't think of it before. The captain, Fancy? I should call him Fancy Free! I mean...how did this not come sooner? I...god I'm dense.

Yes. He's a 18-21 year old Picard as a pony. Or would it be kirk...not sure.

The most obvious thing would be to give him the power too relieve burdens or remove restraints, but then that immediately becomes a tension killer if your crew is ever imprisoned. Of course you could limit it to metaphysical burdens or constraints I suppose. But even that provides a great deal of power, and then you get into the ethics of manipulating an individual's mind in that manner.

Fancy Free sound like Picard name to me.

Depending on how dark you want it to be, I thought at a certai point the original captain dies and Fancy ends up taking his lace.

edit: And keeping it misspelled, it's funnier that way.

Guys I finally have that name for my lead sorted out. I'm going to call the pony Fancy Free...and he is a unicorn...and related to Fancy Pants (son or younger brother). This is important because: In my fanon, Fancy Pants was an explorer of great repute, now retired. He had one treasure he never found which my lead will. But what is really important though is that I am saying that Pant's skill is assessing the worth of things, including ponies...meanwhile his relative at the start is a judgmental upper class twit. Fancy Ps message to Fancy F is...don't judge a book by it's cover. And this advice works out great for him down the line. With this, I can still use all those ideas for Fancy P being an adventure during the 'pony eighties'. Fancy Free's relative's reputation precedes him...this will bring him both allies and enemies right off the bat. My only issue now is, what sort of magic to give to a pony called Fancy Free.

@Applelight: Sounds like a plan. Regarding his skills, maybe you could give him lockpicking abilities of some sort. He doesn't have an instant-freedom spell or anything, but he has really good telekinesis.

Maybe he has illusion magic

Maybe make him like Houdini. The only way to keep him contained is if you put him in a straitjacket, blindfolded, suspended upside-down over a pit of hungry aligators, etc.

And even then, it'll only hold him for like an hour, tops.

Maybe he could teleport in addition to fine telekinesis and that's it?
