Wow, look at all the new posts. ^_^ I love this fandom's veracity.

And all the interesting things we discussed! ^^'

My best friend's first episode was Over A Barrel, and it's what snagged him. Then later he snagged me into the show. I went into it expecting to like it, unlike most other examples I've seen. Stuff gets popular on the net for a reason, you know!tongue And I try to be open-minded in general as well.
-Mr. Nomura, are you trolling your fanbase?

Nomura: Maybe. That is a plot point and I want fans to speculate. *laughs.*

There should be an episode written by a six-year-old, like what happened in Dexter's Lab. And what Axe Cop basically is (though it would need to be less violent).

[up] And it's all about RD, and it turns out it was written by Scootaloo! [lol]
I ship Pinkie & Mac...trust me...I know what I'm doing.

[up][up]I doubt they'll ever actually do it, but that would be just about the most awesome thing ever.

Also, Axe Cop is amazing. I'm surprised I haven't seen any MLP fanart involving Unicorn Planet.

An episode told through 2 perspectives, one being Scoot's pov, would be great.

[up][up][up][up][up][up] What got me into the show was coming across this scene from Owl's Well That Ends Well. Watching the attention Spike gets from several female characters at the same time really drew me in. It seems to have been done to boost the appeal to male viewers in a way that was more family-friendly and less offensive to female viewers than something like fanservice would be. (Not to mention more sentimental and not as crass.)

I'm not sure how you could work that kind of Fanservice into the show.

[up] That's not quite what I meant. I meant, a more innocent, sentimental counterpart to fanservice. Instead of pandering to base sexual instincts like is already abundantly done elsewhere, it panders to the sentimental appeal of seeing a boy so clearly adored by girls, and so clearly appreciating it.

The entire first season was written before the Brony thing. And what exactly is offensive to female viewers?

[up]Doesn't mean that they still weren't trying to appeal to a male demographic; or at least make watching the show more comfortable for guys. I mean, if there wasn't some appeal to males, there's no way the show would be as popular as it is.

The old show was popular among girls, including adult female fans. Not quite as much of a breakthrough, but it was also made 25 years ago. Women can make something popular, too. I don't think the Sims games are that popular among a male audience. Unless they just like burning Sims like me...

You misunderstand. I said fanservice would be (relatively) offensive to female viewers. Having a boy be showered with attention from the girls from time to time is the sentimental, family-friendly counterpart, yet is vaguely similar, except romantic instead of sexual; the connotation of "guy getting attention from girls" comes across, even though you know it's not romantic either, because you know to that guy the fact that said adoration comes from girls must make it especially special.

It would be offensive to everyone if it were sexual.

[up][up] What you mean is that you feel that Phileal love is more appealing than erotic love on this show?

[up]That's probably pretty accurate. At least in-show; I've got nothing against shipping as long as it's done well.

[up][up][up] True, but fanservice designed specifically to pander to males tends to be more offensive to women. *

This, on the other hand, is clearly a gentler, more benign concept, but I think it has a few vague parallels to fanservice. (See previous posts.)

I really think it was just there to be cute. This is never going to be a fanservicey show. It's ponies. They are already naked tongue

Why the sudden comparison to fanservice? The harem genre of fanservice is largely codified by anime, which has no real influence on the show that I can see.

I don't get the point, then. But I've never been a little boy, so I don't understand how attention from older girls is supposed to be good, or appealing to a male audience.
