All joking about gender ratios aside, all indications we've had (Hearts and Hooves Day, Rarity's romantic fantasies) indicate that Equestria is mostly monogamous. I prefer to think they just have a very high lesbian population.
I prefer to think their population is 80% mares for the same reason The Expendables appears to take place in an alternate universe where 80% of the population is burly men.
In other words, it isn't. It's just screen time as a result of the target audience.

And reduce the possibilities for silly headcanon?
. . .Yeah I'm all for that.

If you want a more serious reason, another possibility is that they're ridiculously matrifocal. Mares run most of the highly visible shops and artisanships and such, while stallions are relegated to unskilled labor.

@Pyrkete: Big Mac, Mr. Cake, and I would like to have a word with you.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

Hey guys, finally popping back in.
As far as Equestrian relationships go, I tend to think that the proportion of monogamous relationships to open/polyamorous relationships is pretty much the same as in reality. That is, most ponies are monogamous; the main difference is that alternate lifestyles wouldn't have any kind of stigma attaches so long as it's mutual between all the parties involved.
In other news, graduation went pretty well. It was too long and my seat was uncomfortable, but the weather was pretty nice, and during the recessional the organist played the Indiana Jones theme.

And, okay I think I'm going to like his story. Sychronicity. First scene is the Mane 6 telling ghost stories, and the rest picking apart why AJ's attmept at one failed.. and we get this gem.
“Internally consistent, ” Twilight settled on. “The story has to make some sense, logically. Well, I meant more that the world inside the story has to all make sense, not that it’s something that could actually happen.”
Pretty much the single most important thing for me with stories. Well second, first being that it's entertaining.
Pretty much same. I really don't think there are any real taboo's and things about sex that carry any kind of social stigma. As long as every pony involved is alright with it, who cares?

That's pretty how it is. In fact, it's so much so that I still have hard time wrapping my head around why you humans get so caught in (fe)male to (fe)male relationships.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

I guess it's the price we pay for not having to compete with magical monstrosities and such.

At my sister's graduation, the song they played had a four note sequence in the refrain that's the sounded like the Back to the Future theme. It was really weird because I kept expecting it to continue but instead it went a different way.
As for geneder ratios, hasn't it been a lot more even since season 1?
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

Just started messing around with the demo of Sword of the Stars: The Pit. it's a tad easier than Crawl (stonesoup) and Nethack.
