The beauty of the show is that it doesn't just appeal to kids. Lauren and the crew purposely made it that way. What exactly are you complaining about?

Obviously when you compare this to shows like Reboot, Beast Wars, Shadow Raiders, Action Man, Ninja Turtles, Batman, Spider-man, The Tick, X-Men, Rugrats, Mighty Max, Sonic, Power Rangers, Gargoyles, Dexters Lab and Powerpuff Girls it's up against some steep competition.

... It is? From those? You're kidding.

[up][up] Exactly my point. Friendship Is Magic appeals to older people too, but look at Barney, The Big Comfy Couch, Blue's Clues, Caillou, all aimed at little kids, but there's nothing there to appeal to an older demographic. The only other show aimed at little kids that also appeals to adults is Sesame Street. (Bill Nye and Beakman aim a little older anyway.) I guess there's also Care Bears and the original My Little Pony series but how many of you would still watch them today if not for the nostalgia factor?

It's a little odd *coughdoingfriendshipismagicadisservicecough* to compare MLP:FIM to Barney, The Big Comfy Couch, Blue's Clues, Caillou when they're a little basic and there are other modern shows that are equivalent.
I analyze "Geek Culture" here.

I think you misunderstand, Will Keaton. Most of the people here are of the opinion that My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is designed with the girls 5-13 as a target audience, not girls under 5, and that is where the argument comes from, not the mere existence of the adult periphery demographic.

So comparing it to Barney is false, but comparing it to, say, Kim Possible is much more realistic.

Yeah, that's the whole deal. You can't justly compare a show like this to, say, Dora the Explorer or many other "pre-edutainment" shows. shows like Blue's Clues, Barney, and the like are more focused on teaching kids how to identify things or the basicest of basic morals. There isn't much meat in the way of storytelling or character development.

A show like MLPFIM is much more on par with Tiny Toon Adventures or Rugrats. Those shows had the same kind of character depth and content, and they frequently did have moral messages, but they were much more subtly done, and we can chalk this up to Executive Meddling more than anything.

If you whant compare it to anything compare it to other "Toy Comersianls" shows.

By the way Pinkie (plus Gummy) and her "new frends" reminds me somehow Frends and characters from How I Met Your Mother.

They are like the others. Strange, hideous, resisting, fighting. Only these were not like the others. They did not die.

... I forgot. Most of you aren't Canadian. Why is this relevant? Well, Frienship is Magic only airs on one channel up here. That channel? Treehouse TV. You know what it shares its programing block with? Barney. Franklin. Dora the Explorer. Guess With Jess. Bob the Builder. Rolie Polie Olie. The Wiggles. Toopy & Binoo. Caillou. Waybuloo. Noddy in Toyland. Yo Gabba Gabba! The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That! Harry and his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs. Honestly just listing the shows by their absurd names has got to be more fun than WATCHING any of them.

[up][up][up]Then it seems like the problem is with the programmers of that station, as it doesn't really fit in there at all. It displays a degree of plot complexity that really differentiates it from those.

They do show general family-friendly movies on Disney Junior (that's what you're talking about, right?), but that's a different story, being a movie feature as opposed to the general show lineup.

Only thing worse is non-cartoon shows on Cartoon Network. Not even computer animated!

those are the shows it airs beside up here? Man, that's kinda dumb. I have watched a few of those shows with my little cousin, and I don't think any of them com anywhere close to MLP. The slapstick and visual humor might be good for kids that young, but I really don't think any of the verbal humor, which makes up a pretty good portion of the show, is really 5-year-old level.

[up][up]I don't think Mona the Vampire even airs any more, which is kind of a shame, I have fond memories of that show.

Generally speaking I'm satisfied with the Canadian channels. Between YTV and Teletoon the only show I can think of that hasn't been on the air yet is Young Justice. It usually takes us longer to recieve a new show, but when we do we seem to be less afflicted by terrible in between season droughts. I also believe that Space treats its programs wiith more dignity than the misspelled Syfy channel. Unfortunalty Friendship is Magic only airs on Treehouse.

No. Mona The Vampire does not air on Treehouse. Take a look at their entire line-up here. Take a look and WEEP.

I thought Harry and His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs was fairly cute. Not something I'd watch on my own, but if I had a kid who wanted to watch it, it'd be fine. Caillou on the other hand...

I'm surprised nobody has been like "how the eff does Edmond know Mona the Vampire when that show does not and never has aired in America?"

I've only seen one episode—something about plant zombies—but it seemed like a genuinely interesting show.

... and now let's get back to talking about Ponies. So, Fluttershy is awesome, eh?
