A bit late to the party.

Just saw a Party of One.

I'd like the Nth the support for how awesome it was, I'd never expect to see such an entertaining mental breakdown (with enough creepy) in MLP.

Does anyone feel a little jealous that Friendship is Magic is so much better than most of the kids shows that were around when we were little? I'm talking specificaly about things aimed at kids under five years old. The only things I can remember that genuinly tried to be "educational" are Care Bears and Sesame Street. Of course the later has been around since the 1970's and is still on the air today. I also watched Beakman's World but, while educational, it wasn't really aimed at preschoolers.

I disagree with this. Fi M for one thing isn't aimed at preschoolers, so it's an unfair assessment. Personally I remember many good shows that i watched at the age demographic that Fi M is aimed at—doug, daria, recess, not to mention the great nickelodeon game shows.

Not jealous. Only happy. This show means your nostalgia isn't worth much.

Jealousy would be a waste of emotion. In my opinion.

Then again, I was raised on Bill Nye the Science Guy, when it came to TV.

Yeah, Fi M is good but I grew up with goddamn ReBoot. No regrets for being born in 90.

Same here, but for the first time I'm genuinely happy this generation will grow up watching at least one show that's awesome.

Nope. I liked the cartoons I watched as a kid, I like this one. I don't think kids' cartoons should have age boundaries.

I'm more disappointed that it didn't debut when I was in my first couple years of college.

I had plenty of cartoons to enjoy when I was growing up, and frankly, I doubt I would have given it the same opportunity I've been willing to give it now (if I'd had the opportunity to watch it at all, given that I only had access to ABC, CBS, and PBS for most of my hight school years).

[up][up]The Backyardigans is good, too. Especially after the first season.

I'm a child of the nineties which was a very good time for television animation. The shows I remember most from my childhood are Batman, Gargoyles, and Beastwars. The former two I have re-watched as an adult and have found to be just as good (maybe even better) now as they were then, I've been meaning to re-watch Beastwars, but the animation really hasn't held up well.

Not a big fan of AMV's, but I kind of wish I could make a Pinkie one out of this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fe_7cwy3SJk

Well, if there's one thing we've learned, it's don't fuck with Pinkie Pie.

Pinkie Pie kinda reminds of someone..... but that someone was an old Call of Cthulhu PC that had failed one too many SAN tests. Upbeat one moment but take them out of the loop..... and God help you.

I wonder how a 9 year old would view that episode?

We had good cartoons as kids - Animaniacs, Batman the Animated Series, Jackie Chan Adventures...

I was very fond of that last one...

Yeah, Jackie Chan Adventures was cool. I enjoyed watching Recess too. Though if My Little Pony:Fi M had debuted when I was younger, I'd expect that I would have refused to watch just based on the ponies.

I was the kid with strict parents who was relegated to public television until I was nine, so I missed out on a lot of the "good" stuff.

I probably would have wanted to watch it, but would not because I wouldn't want my parents finding out I watched a "girl" show.

Though had it been around when I was 12 or 13 I would've totally tried to get my younger sister to watch it and then watch it with her, deluding myself into believing this wasn't blatantly transparent. (As I did with reading her Junie B. Jones books)

I'm also in the "would have avoided when younger" camp, so I'm glad this came out when I have a computer to watch in secret on. Also, most of the stuff I watched was, in hindsight, not nearly as good as this. I somehow missed out on Gargoyles and Batman and all the other good cartoons.

Does anyone feel a little jealous that Friendship is Magic is so much better than most of the kids shows that were around when we were little?

Not really. That would be like being jealous that Metal Gear is better than Bokasuka Wars.

That is to say: duh, something that's actually good is gonna be better than crap. The real question is, is Friendship (Again?) is Magic better than classics like Highlander: the Animated Series and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe? I'd say it joins them on the top ten list, but doesn't necessarily top them.

However: I do think that this is the MLP we should've gotten when I were a kid. I mean, that Skorpan and Terak thing was pretty cool, but I would rather have these characters, these adventures, this setting, than that. All young boys who were reaching puberty would've been deprived of Megan, of course, but if they wanted to Rule 34 somebody they still had Rainbow Brite, so the loss is negligable. Something is wrong with any show where you go from living in a freaking castle to "Paradise Estate" anyway.

Aparently my mistake was assuming ya all don't think FiM was geared towards YOUNG kids who are still learning their ABC's and stuff. At least in part. Clearly it also targets an older demographic as well. Obviously when you compare this to shows like Reboot, Beast Wars, Shadow Raiders, Action Man, Ninja Turtles, Batman, Spider-man, The Tick, X-Men, Rugrats, Mighty Max, Sonic, Power Rangers, Gargoyles, Dexters Lab and Powerpuff Girls it's up against some steep competition.

Let's try something different. What shows did you watch, say, before you truned five? (ie. Care Bears, Barney.) Is FiM something you would have watched back then? Can a five year old watch FiM and catch all the subtle nuances?
