I think Fluttershy is, well, um, adorable, and pretty awesome when she puts her foot down. If every pony is an idea of what a girl could be, Fluttershy is the "motherly" archetype.

Wait, no, the Ponychan troll was doing Marceline, not Mona.

No idea what either of them are.

Hey guys, an IRL friend just suggested I should find a Pony forum to post my "Alternate Endings" on. So, ummm... is there one? I've only found Ponychan so far.

Also:

Obviously when you compare this to shows like Reboot, Beast Wars, Shadow Raiders, Action Man, Ninja Turtles, Batman, Spider-man, The Tick, X-Men, Rugrats, Mighty Max, Sonic, Power Rangers, Gargoyles, Dexters Lab and Powerpuff Girls it's up against some steep competition.

It's under competition from those? You're kidding.

To be honest, I don't understand how cartoon fans who were growing up in the 1990s didn't die from sheer boredom. I mean, you've got Rugrats listed among the greats. Freaking Rugrats.

Hey, Rugrats was great when i was a kid. And ya know what? I don't care about your He-man worship, Reboot, Gargoyles, Ninja Turtles, X-men, Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Batman the Animated Series, and Power Rangers? All cool stuff. I cal that competitions.

Dang, this thread is long. I'm looking for that part of the thread where we were talking about that dumb comic where some heteronormative idiot has his self-insert getting on a "Rainbow Dash is not a lesbian" soapbox?

Well, due some idiocy on my part, I accidantly deleted the original "Pinkie Pie Went Mad" video. So here it is re-uploaded! I personally like this one better.

The idea of a straight-jacket on a pony seems really odd to me now for some reason.

How would that work?

Competitions for He-Man? Maybe. Especially X-Men.

Competitions for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? Hell no.

Regarding that big list of shows. A lot of that was really good, and some of it I would gladly watch now, but how many of those shows do you think could spawn such a large fanbase in such a short amount of time if released today?

"I'll just watch one episode to see what the hype is about this show." 2 Hours later... "WHY CAN'T I STOP WATCHING THIS"

My reaction. I like this show.

Half of the interest outside of the primary demographic for this show comes from a few factors. One is a general view that there aren't any good cartoons on; thus no competition. Another is the massive improvement over the 80s series. You can't compare the greats of the 90s (Reboot, Gargoyles, X-Men, Rugrats, etc) to FIM fanbase wise because the playground has changed.

there's also the internet factor. Those shows were around in the range f 15 years ago, which as far as I know is before the internet really came into it's own in the way that it has now. I can say for certain that I wouldn't nearly be as big into MLP had it not been for forums and blogs to feed my addiction, and those shows just didn't havce the benifit of mass rapid exposure that the internet gives.

Yeah. Back in the mid 90s Internet "forums" were a minor niche. The accusation that the Internet was nothing but nerds and porn might have actually held (a few drops of) water back than.

Well, the funny thing is, I actually rewatched a few of my favorite Care Bears episodes fairly recently, and it held up pretty well. For me, Fi M is better overall due to better art and more focused characterization, but CB isn't that bad.

It is much better than CB's reboot, though. That one was similar in spirit to Fi M, but felt watered down at the same time. Plus, they got rid of the Cousins, which I always preferred, and True Heart was reduced to a news reporter with a weird voice.

@Edmond - You're not giving those shows the credit they deserve. One of the many reasons I like Fi M is because it reminds me so much of those shows.

Apparently this is what we could have gotten instead of Friendship is Magic.

I now believe there is in fact some for of benevolent deity out there.

Edit: Finally got the video working.
