The "Can bees squawk?" routine doesn't work as well when Twi and AJ's lines don't rhyme.

Okay, I can easily see "I hate mushrooms!" becoming a thing. [lol]

Is I hate muschrooms what they translated it to?
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

Let's see...

I definitely prefers AJ's original voice. However, the Flower Trio, Big Mac, Spike, I prefer the Japanese dub. Also, I really, really like Twilight's Japanese letter reading voice. It's just so...sweet and soothing.

Huh... you know it's actually interesting how the dialogue changed in the translation. I was expecting that some colloquialisms would be converted for the culture, but it seems like the nature of the conversation changed a decent amount, actually. Japanese Applejack seems a lot more like she's just leaping into the job on a whim without really understanding the implications of it when compared to the original Applejack, who was simply confidant in her ability to do it regardless of the work(Something I understand quite well - I did some math last night and discovered that in the original time frame given, it was literally impossible to finish the task I'm on at work. Somehow, in spite of the fast that it would be physically impossible, I felt as though I should have been able to finish it by virtue of being, I dunno, awesome or something.)

Basically, the difference between american and Japanese Applejack is the difference between being confidant in your ability and not fully understanding the job at hand. Which is interesting. To say nothing of Big Mac, who's much more vocally and actively concerned, compared to his extremely placid american counterpart. I like his language, too. "I worry..." he has an air of intelligence about him to compound the slow wisdom his american counterpart demonstrates. And yeah... his Japanese voice is hella manly.

Is seaweed still in that conversation? This IS Japan we're talkin' about.

@ story: Eeyup.

@ ed: Nope, shittake mushrooms.

Loving the bakery scene so far.

"A cup of yellow" could be interpreted in...interesting ways.

@story: Instead of mishearing help as kelp, she heard shitake.

[up]Those ponies are lucky she went with lemons.

@syd: Why even moths to begin with? Did she hear Pinkie say moths and then think: "Nah, earthworms?" That's like a double mishear.

Hey, they're translating puns here. They need to end up with something that's still a pun in a different language, and also ends up with AJ cooking earthworms. I'm willing to cut them some slack.

[up]Hey, welcome back. I'm enjoying it. There's a link further up the page if you're interested.

Pretty good, IMO. Some of the jokes get lost in translation a bit, but that's to be expected. The characterization is pretty much intact, and that's what matters. My only real gripe is that AJ sounds too similar to everyone else.

Well if they got rid of her awful faux-southern stereotypical dialogue I'd consider that a plus myself. I do like the accent though. I wonder if they gave her an Osakan accent? In anime they like to compare Osakans and American southerners a lot.

I liked it. Some of the jokes got lost in translation, but I didn't notice any cut scenes this time around.
