I'm actually fairly good at writing Chinese, just not all that good at reading it.

One thing I admire about Chinese is how economical it is. Chinese poems and proverbs can consist of so few characters, yet mean so much. You try translating it into English and you lose a lot of the beauty.

@Edvedd: Various languages have different strengths, definitely. Some things Chinese (and the language I'm a lot more familiar with, Japanese) are really good for sound dumb in English, and English has its own strong points when compared to them, too. =)
I'm 8ad, and that's good. I will never 8e good, and that's not 8ad. 8ecause there's no one I'd rather 8e... than me.

Post of the Day #351

@ginger: Personally I prefer Twilight being smug or snarky when she's right, it gives her quirks while still being The Straight Man (who are usually boring characters).

I agree Pinkie getting an Aesop kinda worked, I just thought the plot may have worked better if it got more deranged, that was just an example of how it could have been so.

repost: Lullaby Moon

Can't say I like the toy, but I love the idea of Luna adopting an orphaned filly :3

What if Lullaby Moon had something to do with Trixie Lulamoon?

Trixie's illegitimate daughter brought about after a wild night caused by drowning her sorrows?

Deliciously c64ish

Late to the party, but interesting comparison...

Apparently this is one of the reasons Sina Weibo (Chineese Twitter) is so popular.

If they're still allowed a character limit of 140 hanzi per tweet, that's a lot of room for writing :V

I'm reminded of my teammate from Academic Decathlon a few years ago. We're all given one standard 4x6 note card to write notes for the speech portion on... she wrote her entire speech in Simplified Chinese and had more than enough room to fit the whole thing in, heh.

Oh yeah, if you try to translate Poetic Chinese into English you're not gonna get far because the styles are so different.
