I always had a dog and cat growing up. I unfortunately can't afford a pet right now; if I could I'd probably think about getting a cat.
Buuut, I've got roommates now, so it's not as if I'm hurting for company.
@Apple: I used to have a few fish, and it was the most tragic thing my six-year-old mind had ever experienced when they died.

As far a pets go, I've had a rabbit, a snake, two guinea pigs, and a dog. All of them are dead now, unfortunately, although for a while our neighbor had a cat that spent a lot of time at my house.

One of my relatives had guinea pigs. One of my favourite memories was sitting at their sofa with one of those friendly little guys in my arms :3
