Welp, watched the Japanese Dub. I don't know any Japanese, but most of the voices sounded pretty good. Twilight, Rarity, and Pinkie fit pretty well. RD and Fluttershy sound a bit different then their English voices, but in a way that fits the character. AJ sounds a bit too girly, but she has so few lines in the first episode that I can't really judge. The live-action bit at the end was... very Japanese.

Yeah, I thought AJ was odd too. Assuming the opening is narrated by Celestia in this version as well, I have this to say: I REALLY like her voice!

For what it's worth, AJ's Japanese voice sticks about as close to their version of the country-girl stereotype as her American voice does to our version. That is pretty much as close to a "hick" accent as you can get while still speaking Kanto-ben.
Until you consistently hear more talk about How Much This Sucks than about How Awesome It Is That It Even Exists, it's not a real fandom.
There's an amusing amount of thematic overlap with Precure too.
