I agree. The rainboom itself was gorgeous. Other than that, the animation tended to be kind of hit or miss for me.

Animation quality, like I said, was pretty much hit or miss for me. There were parts where it looked really good, though.
The writing...it really felt like an Excuse Plot, of a sort, though there were still bits of it that made me laugh.

The worst I can say is the flow of the show. It felt like there was a lot of "moving and pausing" as I would say. For example; the dialog. Rainbow and Twi were pausing for about a full second or more before the next one spoke. It just doesn't feel normal.
Otherwise, you could have easily fooled me into believing that the events actually happened. It looked very real.

Twi makes a performance booster potion, Dashie buffs up, flies fast, wrecks Ponyville, and then breaks space and ends up in Townsville where the PPG aren't very heroic lol. Pinkie brings her back home before the PPG take her home. Cue letter to Princess. Not bad for a doujin episode.

The pacing really made me appreciate just how tightly packed the actual episodes are though. It's never padded, but just feels a little empty in comparison.

Yeah, the pacing could definitely use work. I'd say about 7/10, pretty good but could be better.

Okay, it gets points from me for the PPG reference, although that pretty much splits it off from any legitimate comparisons to the show.
I'll have to find time to watch it.
Also, the fact that a writer's daughter messing with toys is the closest we'll get to canon shipping amuses me.
