Yeah, D&D isn't really well known for bothering to balance its magic all that well, so much as holding contests over how many ways they can let one or two classes utterly make reality their bitch.

Yeah, that's why my house rules make magic a bit more difficult, hitpoints more important and physical attacks more effective.

Really, as long as you're not playing with a munchkin, there's no need for extensive house-rules balance. A little bit of equipment here and there from the DM can even out any other discrepancies.

If a wizard can fill all their spellslots with "save-or-die" spells, and still have enough room for buffs and utilities, something went wrong. But we are getting WAY off-topic here.

You mean me? Or one of the many other people who have done so?

Anyway, my house rules are more for flavour. Balance is a secondary goal. Otherwise I would ply 4th ed rather than 3rd ed.

If a player is doing that, then the DM needs to craft a situation where those become detrimental. Stealth missions, Rescue Missions, requiring non-lethal force, hostage situations, diplomacy with people guarded against mind-altering spells, long endurance situations depriving the wizard of a chance to prepare a new set of spells and procure new materials. Being a living nuke isn't always beneficial.

@Sereg All with one set of spells? That you've been stacking with save-or-die spells for combat? Sure, you could stack your spells for the day to deal with one of them, but then you get taken out by a curveball. Clever DM-ing makes teammates matter.

Looks like we're definitely getting ungulates. Looks like... a donkey, a llama and... a deer? Another kind of alpaca thingy? My guess is they replace Pinkie, Twilight and Rarity, left-to-right.

It occurs to me, now that this is all original content, I wonder if they'll monetize it or keep it free?

@Perpetual Lurker: No limit on spells known, genius intellect, the ability to predict the future and the ability to change spells prepared after eight hours rest mean that surprising wizard is very hard.

EDIT: Makes sense that they're sticking with quadropeds. Looking good so far.
