Also, if this does happen and there aren't tons of fanart of Lyra watching the show, I will be disappoint.
There's probably fanart of it already.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
As much as I typically dislike the excuse that it was all a dream, that'd be pretty funny.

Which I never watched. Not that I ever watched Rugrats either, which isn't an impeachment of the show's quality, my family just didn't have cable until 2003.

If they did that...I'd give it my 100% backing.

That's actually the best comparison I can think of. The fandom still debates it's relative quality, but there were certainly some interesting ways the writers kept the Rugrats core personalities and adapting them into teenagers. And at the very least, it was pretty watchable so I'll give the movie the same chance.
"Welcome. You have entered the cranial vistas of psychogenesis. This is the place of no-time and no-space. Do not be afraid."
And speaking of Tales, it didn't do so well because the
Slice of Life genre was virtually unheard of in Western Animated shows at the time. It wasn't terribly easy for the audience to find appealing as many of them prefered the High Fantasy adventure serials of the original series.

I have to admit, despite the premise, I do really like the human designs. Their hair perfectly incorporates both their man and tail styles.

I have two objections. Why is RD's skin blue (when the others' skin colors look reasonably human), and why'd they put AJ in a skirt?

Yeah, the different oddly colored skin also bugs me a little bit, assuming that the picture is indicative of the theoretical TV movie.

That's a fair point. I've never seen why the fandom is so hung up on ethnicity, but you're right it's better to avoid it altogether.

@Drenius: I'm not a big fan of that either. However knowing how this fandom tends to react to giving the humanized characters any sort of ethnicity, it might be best to just avert that completely and go for straight fantasy coloration.
