Could somepony please describe the image?

I guess I'm not exactly surprised. When they were talking about appealing to older girls High School AU would be the most obvious and safe route.

Though I do find it kind of sad/funny that to appeal to an older audience the characters need to be placed in an environment that will probably make them less independent, less mature, and generally younger then they appear to be now.

He can't make it offial without getting people in trouble, but he HAS confirmed this is 100% NOT canon to the mane show, and is an AU.

Another interesting thing is that of all the background ponies they could have picked, they chose Lyrica, who has the same cutie mark as Lyra, who is likely to be in the same set, and she also has similar coloring to Derpy with her blond mane and blue/purple coat. However, her eye shape and necklace make her stand out in her own way, too. I'm surprised they didn't use Minty, because there supposedly was a picture of a brushable doll of her but she hasn't been released yet in that form.

I don't think she necessarily has a canon name yet, too, so we'll see if they use the fan name Lyrica (which is also close to Lyra) or call her something else.

Since I would still like the characters in the show if they were humans or some other species like dogs or cats, I think if they have the same kind of entertaining personalities and stories that the current MLP series has, I probably would like the Equestria Girls characters too.

The image is basically a concept still (like a leaked background from Friendship is Magic we sometimes get) with humanized Mane Six girls in a seemingly High School hallway. If real, it would suggest the new IP is a human High School AU staring human versions of the Mane Six.

Ya know, when Hasbro said they wanted to introduce new ways to experience ponies, I was under the assumption that ponies would be involved :P

You're misinterpreting. He said that this AU adventure IS the movie. It is also not canon.

I think I've figured out Hasbro's strategy. Create multiple shitstorms and a bunch of things fans will love within such a short period of time that the whole fandom eventually comes down with a massive case of apathy towards any one change.

It's working just fine with me (the apathy).

Or, they are are a company, with several different departments, each doing their own thing. the only one that I'd say is actually openly hostile towards us is their legal department. The rest, either like, or simply don't care about us.

@Perpetual: I honestly wouldn't mind if that ended up happening. With pretty much 95% of the stuff so far the changes have bugged me far less than all the drama they cause. I'd love for the fandom to just stop giving a crap every time a new piece of info crops up.

And I'm with JT. I'm just glad all these hints a rumors and what not about humans ia setteld, and an AU thing.

Only "drama" I'm actually pissed about, even though I know the deal, is Fighting Is Magic.

If it was just any guy or just this, I'd agree, but this matches damn near every hint we've gotten over the past few months perfectly.

Again, long as It's AU, I don't care, and hopefully many others won't either.

Ok, getting huge MLP Tales vibes from this. But as long as they keep it noncanon, it should be interesting to see a difinitive human take on the characters.

It least its not canon and I understand why a company like Hasbro is doing this but.....geh...

So, a high school AU huh? Eh. I was really hoping for a spinoff in the same world. I guess I'm glad that it won't affect the show, but when hearing about the new show I really wasn't hoping for "the characters you love, now dealing with high school bullshit!" Oh well.
