Now that I think about it, there are so many challenges involved in farming that maybe they should do more farming episodes as a vehicle to showcase more of AJ's life. Something a bit like Super Cider Squeezy 6000.

I dunno if the problem is that other potential issues you could introduce with Applejack that wouldn't make her out-of-character would just be unable to be appreciated by the show's original target audience.

Honestly, I figure the best way to do it is probably a duet episode(Which we're getting, and I'm excited for). If they can't come up with a solid motivation for her, then have her reacting to somepony else's motivation. Like, Pinkie wants to get back to her farming roots and AJ decides to have her help out on the farm. Another thing with AJ and Rarity, or AJ and Dash. Or shoot, AJ and Shy could be a good combination. They're not quite focus episodes, but at least they're something.

@Kegisak: I really agree that AJ often works best in conjunction with other characters. She makes a really good foil. An AJ/Pinkie episode in particular would be really interesting. Maybe Pinkie needs an extra large-shipment of apples or something and decided to help Applejack on farm. Hilarity Ensues.

Applejack's parents were cursed to change appearances every so often, and now nopony can find them, but they were given a painting that reflects their current appearance. This is why AJ is so afraid of curses.
