A sad thought: Since Luna and Celestia live a lot longer than the others, do you think Luna is going to have to go through the whole "I'm not as scary as I seem" routine over and over, with each new generation of ponies? That'd suck.

nnnnno, it suggested no such thing. It said she became the dark and terrible nightmare moon - no instance of corruption, or evil halves. For all we know, it could be the same as Tom Marvelo Riddle becoming Lord Voldemort - just a name change.

The only evidence for an evil side or outside force is A) Luna immediately apologizing forgiveness when she gets harmonized, and B) Word of Faust. The latter is more convincing than the former, as she could always have been acting when the Mane cast beat her.

Nah, I'm sure it'll only take a little while for it to become set in the public conscious. Then she'll just be another princess, like Celestia. Nightmare Moon will eventually come to be seen as a seperate entity entirely.

Opening narration sujest both becomeing evil just because or by dark side. And hapen later confirm some kind of coruption. Because curing by magic somepony from evil is brainwashing if there no dark side or other coruption involved.

I love those spider things◊. They look cool and creepy. I wish that was actual monster from show.

And they remind me of my favorite alien race Shivans◊ from Freespace.

That's a transcript of the opening narration. I see only one thing in there that might, might hint at a dark side, but even then it's a reeeeeeal big stretch, unless you're chooising to take it super-literally.

And as for what happened later, again, Luna could have just been acting that she had been 'purged' or whatever. She could have realized, "oh fuck, I'm powerless, surrounded by ponies with the weapon that sent me to the moon, and my godess sister is here now to."

Her options were lie through her teeth, or take a trip back to the moon if she was lucky - which would you choose?

Perhaps its worth looking at what Lauren said

Note the parts I put in bold. This is literally described as Lauren Faust's headcanon and could change at any time, especially now she's not in charge anymore. The "evil magic turned into Night Mare Moon" could be discarded for a different explanation when the current showrunners finally decide to address the details of what happened 1000 years ago.

Again, sometimes I think people are too strict and serious with Word Of God. I see it as a guideline, not an absolute.

Slightly related, but in that recent Nicole Oliver interview she said we'd learn more about Equestria & the Elements of Harmony "as the series progressed". Questions will be answered in due time.

I was thinking about real creature, toys and spell could be basen on those. Originals maybe somewhere in Everfree Forest (perhaps hunting parasprites). Maybe much bigger. That could look that spider pet monster of witches from G1 cartoon. Imagine that thing in size of dragon.

That guard is AWESOME!

@Death Cloud: No Idiot Ball is required, since Luna's not evil anymore. She just has scary powers, because that's what being queen of the night entails.
