Then again, Spongebob ended after the movie. Maybe not the best example.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

Spongebob is still more mainstream than ponies, unfortunately.

Oooh I know! A 30th anniversary movie that pits the mane cast against Tirek, who is voiced by Tim Curry.

Lets not compare a MLP movie to the Transformers movie too much. The last thing we need is for them to kill off everyone to make way for a new line of pony toys.

[up]I thought that was strange enough before seeing the original image. Apparently, Scootaloo decided to climb up into RD's uterus while she was sleeping.

Did they created that solely for the sake of the punny tag? Because I can respect that.
That would be running a punchline into the ground.

@Crowfall: It'd be funny if one of the ponies cursed randomly though.

A movie can be a risky gamble, as depending on the profit it makes it can make or break a franchise, or have affect on those that took the investment. Britt Allcroft lost her job after Thomas And The Magic Railroad flopped, while the lack of popularity for Looney Tunes: Back in Action led to a complete revival of the shorts format being canned.

[up]I kinda wish a Looney Tunes revival wouldn't have to be based on how well a movie did.

For Celestia's sake, it's Bugs Bunny.

[up][up][up]That would be incredibly hilarious. Everything proceeds exactly as it does in the show, except right at the climax when it looks like everything has gone horribly wrong. Equestria is seemingly about to be conquered by Tirek's forces. Celestia has been turned evil. Discord's prison is weakening. And then Fluttershy pokes her head out of a bush, sees the carnage, and lets loose with the loudest, most emphatic "SON OF A FUCK!" ever committed to film.

[up][up][up]As said a movie decided how much audiences were still interested in the franchise, few took to it, profit sunk so they decided their wasn't enough interest to invest such a long term project on it.

[up]It does at least seem to be getting out of it's hole now. A show has been made and they've started making new shorts again (if on a far less frequent basis).

And for what it's worth other examples such as Thomas and Spongebob aren't dead, in fact they're being milked somewhat shamelessly.

In a perfect world, Looney Tunes would never have lost relevance.

Wait, I have that movie to blame for there not being more Loony Tunes shorts? Damn you film I'd never heard of before.

Yep, apparently a whole revival was planned with new theatrical shorts airing before movies. It sounded like a pretty ambitious investment too, they planned to revive old characters and even backtrack old concepts (eg. make Daffy a Composite Character of his older and newer self). A handful were finished, though admitedly they aren't of the best quality. Very modernized humor and iffy animation and voices. Still better than nothing:

Loony Toons already gave us the looniest character on the show, we don't need to ponify them.
