[up]Makes sense though. By now, most people who use the internet regularly have heard of it, and have already decided if they are going to watch or not. Apart from people who change their minds, we are not going to get alot of new blood anymore.

[up][up]I thought, in general, people posting here were already fans of the show or never became fans.

The only exceptions I can remember are Robbie, Freeman, and possibly Steven.

True, although that really doesn't happen incredibly often anymore anyway. The fandom is large enough that most people are aware of it, so people stumbling across and going "holy crap this is awesome" are going to be rarer.

We can still hopefully get people who were fans but just discovered this thread though.

Just because they've heard of it doesn't mean they've tried watching it. I didn't bother reading Homestuck until a couple months ago despite its fame, and that was mainly just because everyone else here was reading it.

[up][up] I still haven't started. Once my summer vacations fully kick in (south hemisphere here), I might try.

Oh, the thread? Don't worry, it's just dead.

@Story: I know that, I'm just saying that the acquisition rate of new herd members is going to be slower now that the show isn't a novelty anymore. The fandom has passed the point where it's a new development on the internet and as such it isn't going to get traffic from tons of people checking in to see what all the fuss is about. Yeah, it's going to accumulate new members and get larger, but the growth won't be nearly as explosive as it was in the fandom's early days.

@JT: I don't know about that. Now that more people know about it, the fanbase should keep growing steadily.

Then again, maybe everyone who was likely to join our ranks has already heard about the show.

It's really hard to judge. It's enormous on the internet, but we've just about covered most nooks and crannies of that by now. The question is weather we can incorporate people into the fandom who aren't heavily involved in online culture.

It'll keep growing, definitely, but the question is how fast.

Sometimes, though, due to my Fan Myopia, I talk about it like everybody knows about it already.

Like, some people in choir were like, "be careful about who you talk to on the internet" after I told them that I know college age guys who like MLP.

Still, a few of my fellow feminist acquaintances loved the idea of people using the anonymity of the internet in conjunction with Post Modern social theory to challenge their gender roles. You should all be proud.

Back when I was at school only one guy knew about it (that I know), and currently I don't know if anyone at my university knows about it (btw, no college here, you're off to a university when you're 18), although I haven't asked.

Maybe in USA it's rather well known, but if I went into the subway wearing a pony shirt every single person down there would stare at me the entire way.

If you don't mind me asking, where do you live?

It's quite possible that it's different wherever you are.

Mind explaining this? I don't think I have observed the same thing.

I think what she means is that since you're anonymous on the internet, there's more freedom to act as you really want to act rather than being constrained by gender roles as a person might be in their day to day life. Of course the flipside is that it means people also get to act like jerks with less fear of repercussion.

Santiago, Chile. Around 6 or 7 million inhabitants, which is about half the country's total. Not exactly backwater, but relatively unimportant in the grand scale of things.

7 million? My city only has, like, 250, 000 citizens.

@Mio: Well, the word "girly, " as in, "this show is girly, " is often used as a pejorative, leading to some Unfortunate Implications by implying girly = bad.

The fact that there are men who embrace a so called "girly" show and celebrate its merits despite social stigma traditionally attached to such things is a sign that there are some parts of society who are starting to move past the portrayal of femininity as an inherent weakness.

We're toppling the Girl Show Ghetto, basically.

If girls should be able to play football and become mechanics without fear of persecution, men should be able to be dancers and watch My Little Pony, and vice verse. That's what equality is. Not homogeny, but freedom of choice contained within a natural diversity.

@Lopiny: Wow, that is cool. Is it cool to live in Chile? What do you think about the quality of the Spanish dub of FIM?

Plus, your city has more than twice the population of my city, and it's the 3rd biggest in my country.

I've seen tons of MLP fans. Of course I'm a CS major in college so the demographics are a bit skewed.
