Yeah, this is definitely up there. I don't know if I'd put in my absolute top tier episodes (Season 2 premiere, Hurricane Fluttershy, etc.), but it's certainly at the same level of Luna Eclipsed or Sweet and Elite.

@Blue:*shrug* Different strokes and all that.

Personally I really only find this episode to be decent (though it has grown on me).

In other words, she was focusing her magic into the wrong spell for the situation, imagining that she still had a power boost.

So many ninjas. I got what, 6tuple ninja'd? Of course that's kind of to be expected when catching up.

Undid the spell she isn't capable of performing?

To be fair, it's often easier to dispell magic than to cast it.

I will remind you, has just proven herself capable of creating autonomous life in the form of a Parasprite.

She could have summoned it from elsewhere.

Also...why exactly doesn't Trixie trust wheels?

Just standard Opal syndrome. The amulet was causing her to go insane.

Alright. Couldn't catch the episode this morning. Time for live reactions now.
That would be running a punchline into the ground.

I get the impression this is supposed to be cute, but Spike's "rape face" shoots that idea to hell.

[up]He just looks kind of tired to me. Though I guess I can see where the "rape face" interpretation comes from.

Oh snap, "alicorn" is canon now.

Thing is, she didn't act crazy in any other way. Outside of the wheel thing, the amulet just made her mean rather than crazy.

She wanted Applejack to grow peelless apples.

I kinda didn't like how they treated Fluttershy this episode. It ignored the whole point of Fluttershy's assertiveness lessons.

It's probably Depending on the Writer. I don't know, maybe it could be explained by her being extra nervous when her animals are in danger? I don't know.

She wanted to be the best

Did anyone else think of Dollhouse? She wanted to be her best.

Trixie turned Snips and Snails into an Earthworm Jim villain. That monster.

EDIT: "I'll figure something out. Keep an eye on Trixie. And try not to suffocate under that glass dome."

"I'm telling you Snips, Trixie is getting weirder and weirder." Yeah, any day now she's going to start demanding the construction of stairs.

Yeah, that was one hell of a Batman Gambit. Had Trixie refused, the entire plan would have been ruined.

They could have looked around for sinkholes.

That was a great 'blink and you miss it' gag.

How was that a gag?

I don't know what I liked most. DOTA's shopkeeper at the beginning?

Come on, it's obviously the LoL shopkeeper

Of course this would have failed if Trixie had just worn both amulets.

You can only have one item in each body slot at once. Duh.

I totally saw the placebo amulet a mile away, totally saw Trixie's apology, Fluttershy cowering out. Really the last episode this predictable was the MMDW.

The fact that the amulet was fake was pretty obvious, but how they faked the spells was a big surprise.

the real reason Trixie doesn't trust wheels

I warned you about wheels bro. I told you!

Also, yay someone finally posted, so I can post all this without doubleposting. What happened to the thread anyway?

Man, Trixie must have been pretty far gone due to the amulet's influence to not notice that Twi was using stage magic.
That would be running a punchline into the ground.

Some like Sonic Rainboom largely for being the one 'episode concerning RD's flaws' that didn't involve her acting like a Jerkass to some degree. I think that's similar reason for Hurricane Fluttershy.

I also agree with the previous comment, I like they managed to make notable scenes for all the mane six in this episode, compared to some previous ensemble episodes, where two or three are clearly stealing the spotlight or just standing there as dead weight.

[up][up]The mayor in a cage with an epic Oh Crap face didn't make you laugh?

I aint talkin' bout chicken n' gravy biatch

Is it me or does it just randomly insert this regardless of context? It got stuck in the opening narration twice and it doesn't make any sense either time.

Oh mah stars, darling, muthafucka! Whatever happened ta yo' coiffure?!

Out of curiosity would this episode count in the Team Rocket Wins territory? Trixie lost in the end, but she did beat Twilight at first along with outright taking over Ponyville and got a somewhat happy ending.

We totally need an episode about Mayor Mare and her quest to finish her paperwork.

And money!!!

[up][up]Sounds like a good vice for a Mayor episode.

The Mayor's life has always been about money. Collecting money. Spending money. Touching money....

Sonic Rainboom is generally well received, although I think it's far from the series best episode. I actually think this one is overall a bit better than SR; Fluttershy was a bit exaggerated, but she wasn't nearly as bad as Rarity was in Sonic Rainboom.

I think it also suffers from being the most predictable episode in the entire series.

I mean I know that it was just because the town hall needed to be rebuilt, but I still think it's funny to immagine her as money obsessed. Sort of like Applejacks' barn obsession or Sombra's stair obsession.

As mentioned in the Cheesy Cartoons thread, sometimes predictable plots aren't bad at all. In fact sometimes it works better than trying to twist things around. It's how you execute it. A fair lot of FIM's episodes are based on recurring cartoon plots.

[up]And of course Celestia's cake obsession. It's fun having little quirks for all the characters.

All right, nice to know this thread took a turn for the weird.

Speaking of changelings, think we'll ever see them again in the show? Love they're in the comic but I'd still like to see more of them in the show.
