@spade Yeah, everypony had a good role.

Also, I'd never imagine this face in this pony.

...how do I pagetop?

I'm fairly certain the episode was probably very well liked but I'll ask anyway. What's the general consensus on it?

Zecora is Yoda now!

Anyway, I half expected Twilight's plan to use the EOH, but the actual plan was way better.

It's like the League of Legends thing with the shopkeeper and all those things he had.

hey that's what I was thinking. Also the forcefield is reminiscent of The Simpsons Movie.

So, wow. I was feeling pretty meh about this episode when I heard about it, since I didn't really care much for Trixie...

BUT THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH THE BEST EPISODE EVER.

It does seem like Trixie got more distilled. I was hesitant about this episode at first too because I found her to be one of those characters that was just more annoying than anything whenever she opened her mouth — which is one of the reasons I like her so much in fanon, because the personality comes through minus the more grating parts of the voice.

By turning into a straight-up villain, her voice adjusted and she actually got considerably less irritating.

I'm pretty sure the cold open utilized the Canterlot backgrounds that Equestria Daily showed off a while back.

Oh that too. Also, Saddle Arabia made it into the show.

Saw the episode a while ago. It was pretty good.

Fluttershy was exceedingly adorable. I loved it.

It's pretty much the most universally liked episode since. . .I don't know. . .Sonic Rainboom?

And Zecora can do stuff beyond usual earth magic. I loved that, too.

http://derpiboo.ru/169301 This symbol made me thinking about Nega Mare.
Because he know I'm going to go out in this plane and I'm going to remove one of His creations from His universe.

That was very Sword In The Stone.

Spike: You didn't say no purple dragons!

Is it just me, or is Trixie's villain behavior a lot like Jafar?

It reminded me a lot of Opal in The Opal Deception. Especially her extreme paranoia, and two male underlings.

So do you think she'll become a recurring character, or is this the last we see of her?

@Blue: Generally it was pretty well received across the board. The worst response I've seen was a "eh, it was okay", and those seem to be mostly people who aren't fans of Trixie to start with.

Personally, I think it's the best episode of the season thus far. Although I actually disagree about Fluttershy. I did like a fair bit of what she did, but I kinda feel like they overdid the "scared of stuff" bit a little. I mean, if there's one thing that knocks her out of "too scared to move" mode it's seeing her friends endangered, and I thought it was odd that she was so reluctant to help. Not that it was OOC for her, but I though that they took it further than they needed to.

Sonic Rainboom was liked? I was thinking of Luna Eclipsed, since that was pretty much my favorite episode and this has basically beaten it. Also both episodes are full of gifts to the fandom.

Man, I wish I'd been here for the conversation, there are so many things I loved about this episode.

I was quite surprised at that. I always figured Zecora was just wise and knowledgeable. I thought you needed a horn to actually perform magic.

Sonic Rainboom is generally well received, although I think it's far from the series best episode. I actually think this one is overall a bit better than SR; Fluttershy was a bit exaggerated, but she wasn't nearly as bad as Rarity was in Sonic Rainboom.

[up]I don't think she ever did a unicorn-type spell. My headcanon is that she's capable of utilizing magical plants to create enchantments and such. Like she enchanted her cup to refill itself. I don't think that she could do some of the spells Twilight and Trixie did, though.

@Blue: I was thinking of an episode that has never really been reacted to negatively across the fandom, but I guess Luna Eclipsed works too.

It's an ironic reversal, Twi uses stage illusions against Trixie, turning her own specialty against her!

Twilight must have taken a level in Carnymancy.

So, Boast Busters was retconned I see. In that Trixie could easily defeat Rainbow Dash, in this she can at best tickle her.

In Boast Busters, she made a tornado. In this, she was trying to torture RD, a spell that presuambly can only be used with the evil amulet.

Huh, that's weird, I'm a huge RD fan and I don't like Sonic Rainboom that much.

But yeah, this is definitely the best of the season. The only episodes I'd compare it to in quality are Luna Eclipsed, the season 2 finale, and Heart's Warming Eve.

Yeah, I really like the angle they took. Instead of subtle passive magic like earth ponies, she's got this stealth stuff that just kind of quietly happens when nobody's looking. It's fucking great.

My headcanon is that zebra magic is SCP-173. Except instead of disemboweling you, it does stuff. It's like the ultimate trolling magic.
