the amulet had a picture of a pony's head with a horn and wings, common fanon is The Sisters are Alicorn's, and the show staff have admited they started using that word amogst themselves for them, so yeah it's meant as an Ascended Fanon

Exactly how does the amulet corrupt the wearer? Does it actively inspire hatred, even in someone who would otherwise have donned it for a noble cause? Does it merely cloud their judgment, making them more likely to submit to their base desires?

@Pan

Fun fact: Alicorn in the context of winged unicorns is a corrupted portmanteau of the French words for Wing and Horn. It's pretty legit in that sense.

I'm pretty sure alicorn as a reference to winged unicorns was a thing well before this show. Just because the original/main definition is horn material doesn't mean it can't refer to other things.

Yeah, language shifts and all that. If you look on Google, the "winged unicorn" meaning is more common than the other one

If we accept that, then we accept "decimate" where "annihilate" would fit!

Or people literally using "literally" in places where they are not referring to things being literal!

People like to use Alicorn to refer to the Princesses because they are supposed to be the three pony races which most of the other names imply only a combination of Pegasus and Unicorn. Alicorn at least sounds like something completely separate from the usual races (even if it refers to something none race related).

And personally I think Pegacorn is an even stupider sounding name, so yeah.tongue

To be fair it was based on a gag we already knew from a day or two ago.

[up] Agreed on Pegacorn sounding silly.

The episode was GREAT!

As expected of the studio formerly known as some letter that I forget.

I kinda didn't like how they treated Fluttershy this episode. It ignored the whole point of Fluttershy's assertiveness lessons.

@Enlong: This is a complete tangent, but why is using literally like that such a big deal? Hyperbole, by it's very nature, is false or an exaggeration, and no one has a problem with it, but use the word literally and suddenly its a big deal that you're exaggerating?

@Red: Personally, I think it's the best episode of the season so far. There are only two real issues I had with it, and one of them is that the episode title is lame.

[up][up]That's the other problem. I think they exaggerated Fluttershy's meekness a bit too much.

Hold up a minute...

We saw that the Alicorn Amulet corrupts the wearer whenever they use it, which is presumably why Trixie was acting this way in the first place.

Yet, at the beginning of the episode, she actively sought out that amulet, presumably with the specific intent of getting her revenge on Twilight.

So, just how much of her sudden villain syndrome was due to the amulet, rather than already present?
Hate them veggies...
