We've seen her acting in that capacity a couple of times. Once was with a mouse in a wheelchair. The other, rather less successful time was with Philomena.

I'd be very surprised if Fluttershy didn't have some veterinary knowledge.

@Badwolf: 'Little' in this case is clearly a colloquialism meaning 'young'. It has nothing to do with actual size.

Also, of course Fluttershy has veterinary experience. The question is whether or not she has surgical experience. (My headcanon is that she does, gleaned from practicing as respectfully as possible on cadavers from the Everfree Forest.)

@ storyyeller That's what I was referring to. And I if I remember correctly I read PS after watching Sisterhoof Social so I knew parents are alive and Rarity appeared to be extra overdramatic.

My reasoning was that ponies have a low lifespan and Granny Smith was just an anomaly. Of course it's still depressing.

I wonder if ponies have gotten used to having beds like ours, since Terran equines don't sleep that way, an Apple bloom didn't like the hay mattress.

My personal theory about Fluttershy's popularity is that it wasn't so much that she was stunningly gorgeous or anything, so much as she had the right kind of cuteness to be marketable. Photo Finish didn't latch onto Fluttershy because she was far more beautiful than anypony else, but because she realized that Fluttershy's Moe qualities would make it really easy to stick her face everywhere. So as a result Fluttershy's popularity isn't directly because she's incredibly attractive (above average yes, jaw dropping eh), but because Photo Finish knows her business really well and was able to turn Fluttershy into a fad.
