Besides, in this case it's not really a matter of want. When one consider all the multitude of opportunities they've had to show them, combined with the fact that we've seen more than one set of parents so far, then to consider the fact that they haven't been shown? It's really just a matter of formality to say they're dead out loud, at this point.

I mean, I consider their being dead as an interesting character point, but if they don't plan on bringin it up anyways I honestly wouldn't care if they turned out to be Johnny Appleseeding it up.

They could be alive or dead, both have potential for great episodes. Someone on another forum posited that the episode could begin with AJ eagerly waiting for their arrival... and they never show up. Turns out prevented them from making it, but AJ doesn't know that. She over the course of the episode, she goes from excited, to anxious, to outright resentful, before some well timed intervention gets her to focus on the good times and realize that sometimes your parents can't keep their promises, but they still love you.

IIRC Lauren wanted to address AJ's parents at one point.

@Syd: I don't think that in this context "Luster" is derived from "Lust". It just means the dust is shiny. The lust thing is just a convenient pun.

As for AJ's parents, yeah, it could go either way. I lean towards the "They're dead" theory, because the Apples in general have a really heavy emphasis on family, which makes it kinda weird that their parents would be MIA for so long. And unlike the situation with Twilight and Shining Armor, there are a few scenes were it would make a lot of sense for AJ to mention her parents to the point of it being odd that she wouldn't. Like in SSCS 6 K they're putting the family business on the line; if their parents are still around, it's really weird that no one ever said "wait, what would Mom and Dad say about this". Not that it's set in stone, but it's certainly odd.

Eh... I dunno about that. Seem cliched for this show. The moral is rarely done, but I've seen the plot a lot as I recall.

I'm just sick off Dead Parents fanon. It was used for other ponies too, like Rarity who had dead parents in Past Sins.

And show have habit to not introduce or even bring again any family members like Shining Armor. And all those birthdays without any family members invited.

A possible alternative is that one of them is dead and the other (possibly out of grief) is traveling Equestira.

Most common fanon is that AJ's hat was from her parents.

Applejack is her own mother.

I like to think that the Apple parents are alive and well, and living on another farm. They know that Sweet Apple Acres is in very capable hooves.

Why would they be on another farm? Was Sweet Apple Acres just an offshoot of the one that they're running now? If anyone would break off to start their own thing, it's usually the children, not the parents.

Again, that's possible, but it would feel weird to me if the show went that route. It would be a case of Remember the New Guy. They pulled it off okay with SA and Cadance, but I don't think it would work as well here because there are points where it would have made a lot of sense for them to be mentioned.
