OK, I watched the episodes. I liked it. ^_^ Not as action filled as I thought it would be, but it's not exactly surprising considering the actual target audience.

The evil magic, and the fact that both Celestia and Twilight can use it is interesting. I suspect the fandom to make alot of fanfics with this in mind.

It's nice that Spike got to be the hero for once.

Also, It looked like Sombra (Or however you spell him) was actually killed by that crystal blast thing. That surprised me, considering he was just a unicorn, though a really evil one.

Rereading this thread to see the comments that I missed while the episode was airing. Found this:

I still don't see why Somber should have put the crystal thingie in his own castle, rather than, say, hiding it underground in a random patch of land.

I think, as Enlong touched on several pages ago, that Sombra was supposed to be confident/arrogant, and therefore assumed that almost everypony would be too afraid of him to search in his castle.

That would be running a punchline into the ground.

I'll assume that Twilight's destiny has something to do with Star Swirl the Bearded.

It's just strange that random historical character is the most recurring mythology canon in the whole series, with two whole episodes of Twily cosplaying as him.
