I think she probably expected Twilight to do that if the situation arose, but I doubt she knew with any certainty that it would.

I phrased that wrong. I meant I don't think he ISN'T coming back, and believe he is.

Sombra might leave his mark on S3 anyways even if he did die :V

Trusting Twilight is one thing, but that doesn't mean you can't send along a little backup just in case.

No. Unless she can see the future (which... I actually wouldn't put that past her) she would have no reason to believe that situation would come up.

But it's obvious that one person by themselves has much lower chances. I'm just surprised the rest of the mane 6 weren't involved.

Luna was totally prepared to go personally face Sombra. If anything went wrong she would have shot there straight away.

Why didn't they bring the Elements? Wouldn't that have given them a lot more time?

If Celly really was pulling a Secret Test of Character on Twi... whatever position she's grooming Twi for must be really freaking important if she was willing to pull the Secret Test in the middle of saving an entire city.
That would be running a punchline into the ground.

Dagnabbit, my internet went out like halfway through the first episode!

Oh well. I really hope Sombra comes back, hopefully he'll be more interesting.

Also, my brother and I laughed so much at Rarity making that hat out of three pieces of hay and a straw XD

She probably just assumed that Twilight would bring them along.

Before Celty laid out the "It must be you alone" line, she specifically said "your friends from Ponyville will join you there as well."

@Badwolf (Hey! I finally get your name! Yay Rose Tyler!)

The Elements are basically a magical nuke. I'm not sure they could have done anything to help.

How many things hint towards his return? There's the regenerating horn, Trixie's locket, anything else?

@ L mage, not quite claivoyance, but a really really good snese of intuition, she'll just have these random ideas that she'll act on, which tend to end up right.

The example givin was making hatching Spike be Twi's entrance exam.

@ L Mage: They're not really a nuke, more of an instant win against anything they're used again. So use them to beat Sombra, then find the heart at your leisure.

Storyteller, nobody goes GAK GAK GAK.

You're thinking of NAK NAK NAK.

Also, while Sombra had a woeful lack of characterization, it's ineresting to extrapolate from what he left behind. Not being a truly cosmic-level threat like Nightmare Moon or Discord, he was a Unicorn. What he did, was he used magic in as many complex and cruel ways as he could. Knowing that, like many things, the key to the Empire's defense was the power of emotion, he used magic to suppress the Crystal Ponies' memories and crush them under a tide of solemness.

We know he was arrogant, powerful, and cemented his rule through fear. Which is why he hid the path to the Heart within his own throne room. As Twilight said, he believed that no-one would dare enter his presence. He then set up the nightmare door to torture anyone who did make it into his room. Most likely, Sombra's heart is so black that the door holds no threat for him. Then, he set up an exhuasting flight of stairs, capped off with a proximity trap with a teleportation spell woven into it.

He was arrogant, cruel, brutal, and dangerously smart. An Evil Sorcerer dressed up in the garb of a king.

If only we'd had more actual face-time with him, instead of having to extrapolate from what he left behind.

I think I liked this more than ACW. ACW was more exciting, but the story in this was more interesting. Sombra was also definitely more interesting than Chrysalis aesthetically and planned ahead way more than I would have expected. The songs were great, and Cadance and SA being back was great. I think the only complaint I have is that Rainbow was really annoying.*

[up]And you explained why I liked Sombra better than I could. Nice.

the fact we know for sure we will be going back the Crystal Empire in the one or two episodes at least.

Maybe the Elements are limited to Equestria for some reason?
