I don't think I'd be able to keep myself from deconstructing it. Like you'd have somebody who feels a real emotional attachment for one of the characters, but due to the species differences is completely uncomfortable with even considering the idea of pursuing it. Like "I'd totally ask X out if they were human, but..."

Deconstruction is always fun. By the way, what's DEU?

Human and pony romance disturbs me to no end.

likewise. If a story has both Human and Romance tags, then I'm immediately 100% more hesitant to read it.

The only story that's done such a thing that I was Ok with did it as a drunken one night stand with Luna and it was 100% Played for Laughs. I admittedly found it pretty funny.

But if it's done seriously, then forget about it.

I'm guessing I'm in the minority for not thinking that human-pony romance isn't inherently squicky? (Not that I'm expecting fics in that category to be good—Sturgeon's Law is in full force here.)

@Kyler: I don't think it's inherently squicky, I just think that

1. So many of those fanfics are that it's generally a safe assumption

2. They generally tend to not deal with all the implications; they just go "yeah this dude is falling in love with a pony" and more often then not they present it as totally normal rather than actually digging into the actual complications that would arise from such a relationship

Granted, due to point 1, my interaction with those types of fics are extremely limited, so I might be wrong about point 2.

I'm one of the few tropers who has no issue with Interspecies Romance, so yeah.

Then again, I usually dislike Human-nonhuman romance because Humans are icky.

Well, ok, I have to admit, I might be receptive to a human-pony romance story if the human was female and it was written well.

but since 90% of all human in equestria stories involve male humans, I'm pretty sure such a thing does not exist.

@Lopiny: That's basically it. I'm sure there's a good story of that type out there, but I doubt it's good enough to justify wading through the mounds of crap I'd have to dig into to find it. I'd much rather look through stuff where I have a good chance of finding something I'd enjoy.

@Marston: Good question. Applejack is definitely The Big Guy and Fluttershy is definitely The Chick. Twilight would probably fit The Smart Guy the best, even though she's the protagonist. Rainbow Dash probably fits the personality for The Hero the best, and Rarity could be The Lancer. Not sure where Pinkie would go, though.

RD and AJ have The Big Guy written all over them.

Fluttershy is obviously the chick, no denying that.

If AJ is the Hero then Rarity would be her Lancer but if Twilight is the Hero that means that her Lancer would be Pinkie Pie.

RD is the Big Guy regardless, though with her brash attitude she works almost as well as a Lancer. Twilight, if not the hero, is definitely the Smart Guy.

If Rarity ends up not being in a Lancer position then she dual Chicks with Fluttershy.

I don't know what to do with Pinkie Pie.

Nah, AJ is totally The Lancer. She's the practical advice type, despite never actually taking up the mantle of leadership herself. If anyone besides Twilight is The Hero, it's Rainbow Dash.
