"No! Much more better. It is a drawring of a pony."

Say, would Trigger Happy be a good name for a Royal Guard lieutenant?

Maybe if you give him a crossbow.

You know BlackGryph0n, the creator of all those -licious videos?

He is a military man. A smoking hot military man.

Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

I'd rather pick up a hobby I enjoy, thank you very much

How do you know you don't enjoy it?

Because I've done it before and 1. I suck at it 2. I found it really boring. I can see the appeal in being able to do it, but I lean far too hard on the artistic side of the spectrum to really get into it. Anything where misplacing one comma can break the whole process is something that's going to frustrate me so much that it negates any entertainment value. There's a reason that pretty much all my hobbies at the moment are either purely recreational (video games; reading) or artistic (writing, trying to learn to draw, music). I've got nothing against programmers, but it isn't for me. Last time I did it I spent like 90% of my time poring over my code trying to figure out why it wouldn't compile. The most complicated program I managed to put together was something functionally useless (it did something like count the number of bricks in a structure) and it took me so long to get it to work properly that the amount of effort it would take me to produce something useful wouldn't be worth the time.

Programming? Oh dear, thank goodness Colin isn't on. He seemed unhappy about his programming test earlier today.

JT why not try something easier then?

I guess a good place to start is what you want to make.

@Story

That doesn't matter. I have tons of thing I want to make, but I don't particularly enjoy programming enough to want to put the effort into making them. I don't hate it, and I do it for a living, but I'm not going to spend my free time on it. There's no magical switch you can flip to make something enjoyable.

@story - He's just not that interested. Why should he try, anyway? It's not like it has anything to do with job. His current hobbies are occupying and enjoyable enough to him.

Really, he doesn't find it enjoyable. Isn't it more than a good enough reason?

Hah. Um...that still happens to me sometimes.

My record is getting stonewalled for two weeks in a segfault because I forgot an ampersand.

D Roy and Perpetual pretty much summed it up. I don't enjoy the actual programming process, and the results are too little for me to justify spending that much effort on it when there are other things that I enjoy a lot more. I have no doubt I could get to a point where I'd be a good enough programmer to create things I'd actually use, but I'd have to spend a ton of time doing something I don't find fun to get there. I'd much rather spend my time on something where I enjoy all parts of the process. Writing is a good example; I enjoy the process, and the fact that I end up with a story at the end of it is just a bonus. But yeah, it's largely a "to each his own" type of thing. I honestly wish that I enjoyed programming enough for it to be useful, but alas. While I'm at it I also wish that I enjoyed exercise and thought that vegetables taste delicious. Unfortunately I can't make that call. tongue

@Con: Goodnight.
