Really, he doesn't find it enjoyable. Isn't it more than a good enough reason?

I guess I'm just surprised that anyone could find it not enjoyable.

Ha, that's hilarious. Seriously, programming sounds incredibly boring. Like math.

And I'm surprised that some people don't like chocolate and it absolutely baffles me that people run marathons for no reason other than they enjoy running. Personal preferences are a funny thing.

I remember taking a video game programming class in my freshman year of high school. It was a fiasco from start to finish, because the computer network went down more than once (eventually we couldn't get into the code program at all which basically turned it into "Get on the internet for 45 minutes class") and I think I was the worst student there code-wise at least, which was weird because both times we had our semester exams I made an A+ XD

Programming is actually loads of fun. It's a puzzle, trying to speak to a machine, figuring out how to get it to do what you want. I taught myself how to program my ti-83 calculator in junior high school and whiled away hours making games for it and I actually got pretty good at it. The reason I don't get into it now though is the same I don't get into art. Everything I'd be interested in doing is so far out of my skill level that I don't even know how to figure out what it is I don't know that makes it so I can't do it. The reward isn't worth overcoming the barrier to entry. It's like learning Japanese so you can watch anime in the original language.

Hey!

HEY!

I hate both of you. tongue

Does anyone here take up any martial art? I am currently learning judo and wrestling.

Okay, I am going to bed for real now.

Just when you think you're in control.
Just when you think you've got a hold, just when you feel on a roll.

I hate both of you.

I have miles of printed circuit board and if you inscribed the word hate all over their surfaces in tiny writing it would not represented one millionth of my hate.

@CDRW: Yeah, that's a big part of it as well. It's like, you look at what you could do with it (making games, scripts for browsing, etc.) and you're all like "that's awesome!" Then you realize how much trouble you'll have to go through to get to that point and figure it isn't worth it. It always sucks when there's such a hump to get over right at the start of something like that. Heck, the only reason I'm not trying to teach myself how to play the drums is because a decent set costs a couple hundred dollars.

As for the puzzle thing...yeah, it basically comes down to not finding that fun. When the program doesn't do what I want it to I'm far more likely to just get frustrated if I can't find the problem within the first couple minutes.

On the other hand, trying to resolve a plot hole in a story can easily keep me occupied for hours.

[up]Also, you're a robot, so of course you're biased towards programming anyway. It's just like talking for you. tongue

EDIT: And myself, being a meatbag, needs sleep. Goodnight everyone.

You could say the same thing about lots of things. That's how I feel about art.

In all seriousness, I think programming is one of the reasons my writing is as readable as it is. When you have to get used to meticulous picture-perfect syntax, it carries over. We make good proofreaders grin

Of course not. Noone could possibly like everything because everything includes peanuts

I'd assume when they want water they squeeze the walls and it just refills by diffusion.

Yeah, but what about the sewage/composting? All that stuff has to go somewhere, and nopony would appreciate an unscheduled brown shower.

I always figured they have a nice mountainside midden with a compost pit, and Earth Ponies collect the compost at the foot.

OK, this is kind of funny. Adweek was doing it's yearly Hot list Poll, where you can vote in various categories for various shows. Basically, FIM got so many votes in various categories, that they basically went "OK, you win", removed us from the polls (I think), and say that it gets a special mention as the best show in the history of ever in the magazine. They have also opened a new poll, asking who is best pony. Surprisingly, out of the Mane 6, Fluttershy is last!
