pretty much the ONLY episode that there is a vast majority (thogh still not universal) opinion that it was just bad is Mare-Do-Well and even then it's more, "bad compared to the other episodes it fails to measure up to, but still good on it's own." Not bad bad, just, significantly below the standards we've some to expect from the show. While still being vastly better then almost any other kids show episode around these days.

Canonically it's the Crystal Empire, actually. I don't know why they call it the Crystal Kingdom in the show, especially when Rainbow Dash apparently asks a pony about a way to protect the Emperor. Last time I checked kingdoms weren't ruled by Emperors.

@Librarian: The toyline calls it the Crystal Kingdom and says Cadence rules it, so I reckon there's a deposing or abdication involved.

Oh, just wanted to tell you, if Season 3 comes out before I finish, I won't be doing any reactions because I'll have to catch up.

Oh right, DMOS. Yeah, we tend to not touch that. Given that all it takes for an episode to get put there is one person not liking it, I'm honestly surprised that there aren't more episodes up there.

But moving on. Spoilers, yeah. Sounds interesting. More than anything I'm curious about what might have made the Crystal whatever disappear for so long.

Maybe it's like in the Lord of the Rings. Cadance is the rightful heir, but King Somber was some kind of malicious influence on the Emperor and he had her exiled or something.

Apparently, alcohol is so rare in Ponyville that ponies camp out in the road for a chance to drink cider, which is weak.

I will invent the Trans-Dimensional Portal, and help these poor ponies. They have to deal with all those monster invasions and they can't even drink?

I will bring a metric fuckton of whisky.

@JT: Ah, you're right, thank you. How rude of me to just assume the alcoholic pony is the only one cheerfully guzzling down cider.

She does get a pretty good "Oh no!" face when Flim and Flam talk about the lack of cider though.
