I remember one L Per I was watching played through Barbie Island Adventure, presumably as a joke. It seemed pretty vapid to me. I think they have a long way to go if they want to escape any stigma.

Wasn't there also an old 80s Barbie cartoon too?

I've had the words 'Grand Guignol' running through my head all morning for some reason. Turns out it's this old French Theater that specialized in horror performances.

And now I'm thinking: Hey, Horror director pony name!

@d Roy: There are actually quite a few straight to DVD Barbie animations out there. No idea what the quality is like; I'm assuming it's pretty variable.

Straight to DVD. Can never trust those stuff.
As I find so much pleasure in that melts like my breath, I am always full of regret.

[up][up]I've seen a few in passing on Cartoon Network. It's mostly fairy tale stuff. They're not horrible, but the CGI animation leaves a bit to be desired and it's bad-diabetes inducing.

My little sister was into Barbie movies for a while, and man, did they kind of suck.

But in a way that was, like, impossible not to watch.

The Nutcracker one had Tim Curry, though. He made it worth watching.

I think Barbie would also face an uphill battle compared to MLP because it doesn't have the same novelty factor.

Barbie Fairytopia felt like it was written by a little girl playing with toys. It was amusing, though.

At least it was better than Barbie: Mermaidia.

Barbie has had... several direct to DVD CGI films of.... less than stellar quality. They're rather... meh. serviceable to kids.

Don't as know I know, let's just say I have a sister-

Oh god, the flashbacks!

rewatching To Boldly Flee well the spoony commentary of it, and, holy shit did not see that the first time, but 8-bit Micky is wearing a Derpy Hooves shirt. Yeah everyone knows he's a brony and there was even a line about him watching the show while some other people were doing something. but just noticed the shirt.

That all sounds about as bad as some of the G3 stuff, at least.

Fun fact, I actually didn't know Fi M was a series for awhile, I thought the pictures were from a new direct to dvd movie that people were watching.

Yeah, most of them are essentially either gender-flipped versions of classic stories or just sappy original plots.

[up]It was actually later that I learned it was a series. I was also where I learned about the greater fandom. It still took awhile before I watched the series.

Random question.

If a pony has "driving" as its special talent, what would its cutie mark be? A steering wheel?

DeceasedCrab played the GBA game Barbie: The Magic of Pegasus for reasons I don't quite remember. (He was hopped up on painkillers from dental surgery, and he replaced the game's soundtrack with Manowar songs.) I recall he came to the conclusion that, once you got past the Barbie trappings, the game itself was a pretty decent platformer.

[up][up]That's because WayForward Technologies made that. If ever there should be a platformer for MLP, they should make it.
