They probably have artificial insemination. Horses are often conceived that way in Real Life.

I did a biology presentation on this once. There are a lot of cloned Quarter horses running around out there.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Cake children were conceived via artificial insemination, after many years of the run-of-the-mill mammalian reproduction method gave no results.

@d Roy: There was a lawsuit about this. The American Quarter Horse Association would not allow clones to be registered, and effected the price you could sell them at and stuff and generally caused a huge kerfuffle. I don't know whether or not they settled it by now, it was still an open ended issue when I did my report.
