@Lurker: Eh, I think a quick infatuation can work if the writing is good enough. Either way most romance is not all that realistic so I tend to not worry about it to much (unless you try to apply it to canon that is).

@Purple That won't stop anyone, especially since nothing is precluding her being bisexual. It does bug me that in fiction, given a character's unknown sexuality, it is always assumed to be the less common ones. It bothers me on a statistical level.

[up]I was talking about sudden infatuation between two characters that already know each other really well, like any two of the main cast. With characters that have never met, it can make sense, but when the majority of fics just say "they were hiding their feelings, " it doesn't make any sense unless the pony involved is a master at hiding their emotions.

Just finished reading Crossed Paths, another ambitious crossover fic, and one of the better crossover fics I've read yet. While on their own, separate adventures in their own, separate verses, Indy, Jack, and the girls each come across the exact same mysterious red gem. They each go for it at the same time, and dimensional shenanigans occur, leaving all 8 trapped in a strange, unknown place. Now they must brave nightmareish versions of each of their worlds to find out what's happened...

Hurr hurr page number. Anyway, carry on sailing. I don't really see the harm in ships so long as they're in character and don't go overboard. There mast be more RD/FS though. I'm sure if I trawl through enough I'll find some sunken treasure.

@Absol: 55 of them have appeared in "real" L-Space. There's more in Virtual L-Space, but most of it is unreadable :V

What is this "L-space" you speak of?

[up][up] Also, that episode was so full of RD/FS. It's one of the reason it's my faves of S2, even though I can't even remember the title

[up] Wait, was that actually in Germany, or was it a German dub/report on it?

@Absol: It's a concept from the Discworld wherein you can exploit the infinite possibilities of the printed word to access any book that could possibly theoratically exist, and in extreme exploit cases you can even exploit it to travel in time via the books themselves. (Knowledge is Power, Power is Energy, Energy can have Mass and distort space. Also books reference books from the past and influence books in the future. for example, Cupcakes has an awful lot of links in future fanfics due to its infamy) The Internet's existance has made L-Space much, much bigger (so many bad fanfics now [lol]).

My own additional hypothesis is that books that actually exist reside in a section of L-Space I refer to as "real", and books that could exist but don't are in the "Virtual" part, and need to be written by someone to exist.

Okay, I know you guys are probably sick of me pimping this story by now, but it's so relevant to the situation that it's kinda hilarious. My entire goal in writing it was avert that kind of thing and basically try to play a romance as closely as possible to what it would probably look like in canon. In particular I'm really trying to avoid that whole "they were always in love/they were just hiding their feelings/they suddenly develop a romance out of nowhere" thing, and try to show the relationship actually developing rather than have it pop up fully formed. I realize it's technically OOC that there's romance at all, but I'm basically just trying to explore what romance would look like among the cast if it ever showed up.

Case in point, Twilight doesn't even recognize that she's developing a crush until someone else points it out, and needless to say it takes her a while to figure out how she wants to respond to those feelings.

Well yes, but it was either that or "Actually, I was always in love with her", which to me, at least, is worse. Which is why I basically wanted to make it as subtle as possible. The point is that Twilight doesn't just fall in love with somepony entirely out of the blue; she realizes that she's developed something, but she isn't sure whether it's legit romantic interest or just a temporary infatuation.

I agree that it makes sense, it's just that it still comes oout of nowhere to some extent.

To be honest unless it's "love at first sight", any sort of crush will probably fell like it came out of no where. Those sort of things really only make sense in hindsight (and even then not always).

I agree with Mio. At this stage, any potential future crush on the show will be popping out of nowhere. So 'first sight' is the only thing that makes sense.

I once read a fanfic where in the very first chapter Rainbow Dash professed her love for AJ and Rarity professed her love for Big Macintosh within seconds of each other and then they were in a relationship. Apparently they'd always been in love with them. Oh yeah they revealed their feelings because Granny Smith had just died.

Didn't read past the first chapter.

someone should do a parody where Hearts Desire accidently gets in the water and everyone starts shipping.
