They're not. Which can cause some rather disproportionate problems when the fandoms of both of them undertake similar-scale projects but one has a far shorter relevant time scale to do it in.

That's not even getting into the drastically different attitudes toward fanworks between the two sides of the Pacific. Western fanworks have to be nonprofit or they get descended upon by angry law griffons (and sometimes they get shut down anyway), and that as many people have gotten away with small-time commissioned stuff over the ponies is incredibly unusual given our atmosphere of aggressive litigation; compare to doujin markets that can occasionally operate on a paid professional scale.

We're at a worrying handicap in comparison is all.

I think there's enough material to make several spin-off series, The greatest of which is the CMC, They could run a show on their own.

Like I said before, I'd totally watch a Not Quite Legends of Ponyville spinoff featuring the background characters.

Not as they are now, I don't think. Maybe after they get their marks so they can stop having the same plot every episode.

If there was a spinoff, I'd like there to be kind of a world tour vibe to it, and maybe we could go beyond our current Equestrian map.

I'd like to see more of the border lands, yeah. They could probably pull off a G-rated political thriller with the princesses handling a diplomatic crisis with one of the other races.

Twilight and crew could be appointed Ambassadors of Equestria. She's already appointed them as emissaries to that dragon that one time.

I'm almost certain (read:hoping) the Crystal Empire thing is going to contain all sorts of backroom machinations and conspiracy plots.

I'm keen for an Alternate Six, or more Mythology Gags :D

Alternate Six is a rich possibility, but it'd be difficult to live up to the perpetual dysfunctional clusterfuck that is Lunaverse

That, and I'd be afraid the Alternates will have taken the stage in the first place because of Discord time-screwery, and it'd just be depressing as hell if they inevitably ended up having to sacrifice their version of things altogether in a Reset to restore the Manes. I mean classically Alternate storylines tend to feature Trixie, who...isn't too well off in the canon continuity.

Nah, it's more of another point of view, like say we get to see life in Ponyville from the POV of other residents there, like Lyra or something :3
