I think Valve should release Half Life 4 just to troll everyone.

Random thought: Maybe Diamond Dazzle Tiara has a future as a hip-hop artist. Her tiara cutie mark? It's bling.

The one thing that bugs me about the pony fangames is that because of American animation network practices having normalized extremely short show runs, the series will probably be long since over by the time any of the games are in anything resembling a polished state, just because that's how long it takes to make a decent fangame — much less one of the kind of visual complexity most of them are going for.

Like, keep in mind it's rare for a cartoon around here to even be greenlit for a third season at all. Compare to Touhou, where it just kind of gets new installments as the one guy doing stuff feels like doing stuff and nobody's stopping him.

Diamond Dazzle Tiara has a future as Princess Cadance's tiara polisher. Because we all know Princess Cadance loves tiaras!

Either that or DT becomes Cadance's closet lover.. because... she loves tiaras! (That was terrible sorry)

How is an animated TV series' release schedule remotely comparable to that of an indie videogame series?

also, that "Standardized practice" was really just a rule for Disney, that soe others copied. And NONE of them had fanbases this large, this powerful, and this eager to throw Hasbro our money.

Plus that tweet from Daniel Ingram that hints at a season 4 being a definite.

Meghan Mccarvy (is that her name) the lead writer has also spoken of upcoming seasons long before Ingram did.

Of course, that doesn't mean it's a certainty, but the people working on the show think there's more than 1 season to come.

Also, it depends on how ambitious the project is. That Portal game I made last year is playable. Admittedly it didn't have half the stuff I originally planned, but that was because I lost motivation, not due to a lack of time.

Really, Hasbro would be kind of stupid to not go for at least one more season. Chances are good that we'll get 2 or 3 more, although after that they might want to try kicking off a new gen or something.

In any case, it's quite likely that the fandom will be self-perpetuating by the time the show ends anyway. And if the following generation is anywhere close to this one in terms of quality, it probably won't slow down the fans.

[up]I'm rather curious as to how these new generations will be handled after G4. I wonder if they will do something like Transformers and reuse the character names, with the characters themselves varying to different degrees (admittedly they already kind of did that from G3 to G4).

I really doubt even Hasbro has any clue, they have to be trying to figure out how they can make anothershow, just as good as FIM, without going overboard and making it clear they are trying to suck up to the bronies.

I'd personally guess that they'd use new names, or maybe names from previous generations, if only because the fandom is so attached to the current gen characters. Like having another character named "Rarity" or "Twilight Sparkle" in a new generation with a different personality would be kinda weird.

[up]Yeah, I'm curious to see if they'll try something new with the next generation. Not that they won't ride this one as far as they can, but they can't keep it up forever.

Alternatively the next gen could just focus on a completely different set of already existing characters, or in other words, let'w say the Mane 6 were background characters and all those ones we called background characters were put on the front lines.

Could definitely see them trying a few spinoffs. hell maybe that's what the Crystal kingdom will end up being.

Weren't the CMC originally supposed to be a spin-off? Or was that ever confirmed/denied?

That's an interesting idea, but I think it would be problematic because they'd either have to make new characters, at which point it becomes a sort of Remember the New Guy when these characters have never appeared before. Or they use the background characters, which is going to make waves because almost all of them have established personalities.

It could be done well, of course, but it would be a huge gamble.

I say they should keep it in Equestria, but advance the time line by about one generation...the mane cast are now mature and wise(ish), the CM Cs are young adults etc...

[up][up]I'm not sure how I feel about that idea. On one had I think it would be interesting to see how the cast matures over that time, on the other hand I'd rather keep the Tethercat Principle going and leave them roughly where they are so I'm not reminded of their mortality every time I watch the new version. tongue
