I'd pencil Spike down as 10-12, since he's a bit sarcastic to be too young.

Anyone see this yet?

I haven't really spent much time around kids that young so I could be laughably wrong about that.

[down] Huh, good point. I was just going by personality though. Of course, them being about 15 years older is still pretty awkward.

@Blue I wouldn't make AJ and Rarity that old, if only because it makes the age gap between them and their sisters rather awkward. If AJ is 30, Apple Bloom is 10, and Big Mac is older than AJ, then their parents were having children over a 20+ year period, which is rather strange, though technically not impossible.

@Bluespade - Ah, I see.

Twilight being the youngest sounds plausible enough to me.

Hmm, come to think of it, that makes AJ is sound old enough to be Apple Bloom's mom.

To bare in mind about life experience note that Twilight has been in school up to possibly University level while Rainbow left school early to pursue a career in weather. So even if she's younger physically she's had more time to be independent and stuff.

Come on. We all know our little Bloom was an accident.

And that incest is fairly common in the culture of the South.

I wonder if Equestria has its equivalent of high school.

[up] Well, yes. I find it interesting though. It is not as bad as certain discussion.

Ah, another age o' the mane six discussion I see.

I've never actually participated in one before.

If AJ is 30, Apple Bloom is 10, and Big Mac is older than AJ, then their parents were having children over a 20+ year period, which is rather strange, though technically not impossible.

Actually I'm okay with this. My "headcanon" (though I think it's actually supported by the show, even though lots of people disagree) is that ponies can live for 200-300 years, so the age gap would be more normal by their standards.

Really? Interesting. What makes you think so?

@ long period for having children.

There's a 24 year gap between my mother (the youngest) and her sister. She had gotten married the year my mother was born.

I voted for Fleur-de-lis as the best Canterlot pony on that EQD poll, mainly because I love her charector design. I also found this pic of her too.

I voted for Prince Blueblood because he's one of my favourite ponies overall, let alone Canterlot.

@d Roy: Probably has to do with Ponyville apparently existing for hundreds of years and Granny Smith being there at its founding.

Keep in mind that first "fact" is disputed by some.

[up]Really appeals to your power fantasies and hatred of Rarity.

@d Roy: In Winter Wrap up Twilight said that Ponyville had been performing their ceremony for 300 years without magic, establishing that Ponyville is about 300 years old.

In Family Appreciation Day, we learned that Granny Smith helped found ponyville when she was young. I take this to mean that Granny Smith is over 300. Since she's obviously near the end of her lifespan, I figure most ponies wouldn't live nearly that long, but still, enough that maybe 200 would be average lifespan.

Whenever someone brings this up it tends to start an argument though. Some people think the wording is too vague to draw those conclusions, others think it is a simple Retcon. I just go with what I think is the logical conclusion. This is a fantasy world full of magical creatures after all, why wouldn't they have an unnaturally long lifespan? Like elves, but less lame.

I don't try to give them hard numbers, I just gauge them in relativity to each other.

  • Oldest
  • Fluttershy: visibly taller than the other girls in Cutie Mark Chronicles flashbacks, though she could just have been a gangly kid. We also know for a fact that she's a year older than Pinkie, and she's certainly the most motherly.
  • Rarity: Owns her own home and business, the most mature of the group.
  • Applejack: Runs her family business, highly responsible, similar level of maturity to Rarity.
  • Pinkie Pie: More experienced than Twilight, but definitely lacking in maturity.
  • Twilight Sparkle: Youthful enthusiasm and naivety underlie her intelligence and responsibility.
  • Rainbow Dash: Looked a bit smaller than the others in the CMC flashbacks, generally the most immature of the group.
  • Youngest

I figure on a 2 year gap between Fluttershy and Rainbow, tops.

I voted for Fleur cause she looks really cool and she seemed legitimately nice. Photo Finish was a really fun character too.

[down] @d Roy: Ya see what I mean? It's a controversial subject.

The Winter Wrap Up can be just as easily interpreted as Earth Ponies doing the tradition for hundreds of years or you can just as easily say Twilight was poorly prepared for Winter Wrap Up (which she was) and got her facts wrong. IMO anyway.
