@d Roy: To add to what Blue said, he ultimately didn't manipulate them into doing anything. It was all forced on them via mind control, except Twilight but that was kind of vague since she did turn gray.

@Blue: Like I said, I want a villain who pulls that type of thing without needing the brainwashing.

Also, I literally ordered that DVD within thirty seconds of confirming that it was legit. It's a pretty good deal (less than a buck per episode), so I was debating. Then I noticed that it would have commentaries and I was sold on it.

I think Twilight's was legit; he deliberately brainwashed her friends with the intent of cracking her brain manually.

@J Teeth: I guess. Honestly I've really turned on Discord as a villain since Ro H first premiered.

Despite Chrysalis being not that much more clever and being even less powerful then, I've come to prefer her more.

Won't people be surprised when Gilda pulls Big Damn Hero. I personally think that would be interesting.

I do prefer her character design; Discord's is interesting but he's still kinda goofy looking. And I will say that Chrysalis' is a bit more impressive in some respects in that she didn't have that reality warping to fall back on and had to sneak her way in to be a credible threat.

Chrysalis is my favorite too. She doesn't have the sheer Presence of Discord, sure, but she's a lot more competent and intelligent. And an enemy as powerful as Discord just isn't sporting. It's a given he's gonna be beaten with an asspull of some kind, because nothing else would be capable of defeating him.

Oh my god, a full season box set? With commentary? I cannot give them my money fast enough.

Also that sheet music is really cool. I know what I'm doing with the rest of my day.

Nthing that Chrysalis is the best villain so far. Discord has a chance to trump her if he reappears and doesn't botch things up next time. Seriously dude, you've got to follow through, you can't just defeat them and then sit back relaxing.

The problem with Nightmare Moon is she was only onscreen for 2 short scenes and most of her lines were necessary exposition. She didn't show much of a personality.

Her design and backstory is pretty cool though.

Nightmare Moon is cool, but I think she suffers from a rather big problem: She's not nearly as threatening as Discord or Chrysalis. After her initial appearance, pretty much everything NMM attempts ends in failure; she has a brief moment when she shatters the elements, but other than that the cast easily gets past everything she throws at them. Both Discord and Chrysalis managed to score some victories before getting taken out.

Also, getting the colors in RD's tail right is incredibly annoying.

That is the biggest problem of Discord in my opinion. He did absolutely nothing. He did scream like a little girl, yes, but that doesn't count.

The problem Chrysalis was that she could not apply the logic of her plan further. She drew from Shining Armor enough power to overwhelm a being that controls the celestial objects. She should have been able to thought of the fact that the said power could be used against her as well.

But yeah, plot.

@d Roy Feeding on love is a racial trait of the Changelings themselves. Why would any pony be able to use that power? Luckily for the ponies, Cadance is kinda a demigoddess of love, so she was able to pull it off.

The problem with nigh-omnipotence is that it tends to make people overconfident. Discord got overconfident, so he lost.

As for actually interesting villains, there's so many possibilities.

@J Teeth: Yes, this. NMM is this badass queen of darkness, swatting guard ponies out of the air like it was nothing, but when trying to stop the mane 6 she goes all roundabout cutting of moustaches and turning into thorns. I guess that's sort of the problem with having such a major villain be the first thing the cast faces.

Also, I usually try to avoid coloring Rainbow Dash. Stupid colors.

@Lurker - If Chrysalis didn't know that, that cannot be explained as anything other than utter stupidity.

@Ace - Overconfidence of overpowerful enemies are usually result of authors' lack of creativity.
