Be glad you read it revised. Pen Stroke has gotten a lot better since cutting his teeth, but the initial run of Past Sins was...well, to be blunt it was pretty crap, and Nyx was a straight-out Sue in every sense of the word. I mean...oy vey.

For me at least, the difference between It's About Time and Dragon Quest is that It's About Time hinted pretty strongly from the get-go that Twilight was just massively overreacting, so when nothing ended up happening it made perfect sense; we had seen everything that led up to that point and knew that there wouldn't be a disaster. The entire episode is basically about the fact that Twilight expects a disaster that obviously isn't going to happen. Dragon Quest, on the other hand, basically frames Spike's journey as a serious attempt to for him to understand his own origins. It looked like a legit character exploration. Then it turned that the extent of that characterization was "dragons are kind of dicks", and it felt like a letdown because (to me at least) the episode had actually presented itself as offering more. When I watched It's About Time, I expected Zany Hijinks from the get-go, so when that actually happened it didn't bug me. In Dragon Quest, the episode told me to expect a revelation about Dragon culture and Spike's past, so when the Zany Hijinks showed up it felt like a letdown.

Also, I'm trying to get my ATG prompt for today digitally inked before I send it in. It's driving me nuts, and it isn't even a complicated picture.
