@CDRW, imagine a gigantic party only you have a higher chance of getting conversation more relevant to your interest than any normal party. There are dances, sometimes karaoke, Anton of merchandise in the Dealer's Room you can barely get anywhere else, and a ton of artists are in Artist's alley are there too and it's great if they happen to work on a webcomic you know.

There are panels that cover a bazillion topics, rooms where you can sit and watch various anime, sometimes previews. Anime music video contests exist too, some cons have a rave or a dance, there's the masquerade show where people go on stage to play a skit or show off a costume. The occasional famous or important person comes along to rock socks off, like this past Otakon I was forced to be jealous of my friend who went there because right there was Jason David Frank aka The Green Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, the White mighty Morphin power ranger, the red Zeo ranger, the red Turbo ranger, and the black Dinothunder rangers aka POWER RANGERS GOD.
