You know the WMG that there were other ponies helping Celestia use the elements to trap Luna. Yeah that can't work I realized. It is a fact that nopony except the sister have wielded the Elements, if not ever, then at least since Tia and Luna defeated Discord. Since Tia was caught by surprise that the the Mane 6 doing so broke the seal on Discord. meaning her and Luna had been the ones attached to them since at least then.

My tentative headcanon on AJ's hat is currently that it belonged to either her mother or father. The show probably won't go there, though.

@Seraphem My headcanon is that it was the same group that defeated Discord that defeated Nightmare Moon years later. They were short Luna the second time (obviously) so the Elements couldn't operate at full effectiveness.

Except when they died there connection to the elements would have been severed and set D free. Celestia and/or Luna had to be the only ponies to have a connection to the Elements from the time of them beating Discord, till the Mane 6 took them up.

@Seraph The seal broke when the Elements changed hooves, despite the fact that Celestia and Luna had lost their connection to them long ago. It's the appointment of new bearers that broke the seal, not the loss of the old ones.
