So yeah, I could make it like a flying sailing ship (albeit one with engines), but that might make it too flimsy. It's supposed to be a tough, durable, flying tank capable of fighting big flying monsters.

The flying ships and air galleys in Age of Wonders fit that description just fine. Especailly with some buffs like Stone Skin.

Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

I still like the idea that it floats by means of a giant cloud stuck in the middle. It would work it into the setting a lot more nicely than more traditional means. Not that it couldn't also have a balloon or engines as backup or something. Also cannons. Lots of cannons. That are magic.

@Seraphem: I agree that the subject isn't inherently NSFW, but I think conversation can veer into creepiness really easily and it pays to be cautious. Also, we've kinda driven the subject into the ground by now, and there really isn't much to it that hasn't been said already.

Besides, talking about Celestia's (spotted) dick

is more entertaining anyway.

Ah yes, I remember that idea. There was that, and the idea of it creating it's own bed of clouds to sit on.

Y'know what, I think the cloud could be weaponised too. Transformed into a storm cloud, and used to release lightning at an enemy.

Except they don't figure out how to do that until they really need to. They have to sort of just come up with it on short notice when they run into an opponent they can't defeat normally.

Well, most of the time we see her, she has been acting less than pleasant. That said, I still find her Magnificent Bastard moment in Ponyville Confidential.
