@ed It primarily has to do with the fact that air isn't anchored to the ground, so the earth rotates semi-freely beneath it, but there is still friction with the ground which creates circular motion in the air as it moves. It's why hurricanes, tornadoes, and the like rotate, and why they rotate in opposite directions in the northern and southern hemispheres.

[up][up][up]Well it wouldn't cause the traditional crater and shockwaves, but the flash floods that would come from "liquidating" (quite literally) Cloudsdale could be just as devastating.

[up][up]And the lack of this motion would make it easier for Pegasi (Assuming the planet doesn't move)?

@ed That's what I'm thinking. It plays a big part in how our weather occurs naturally. Without it, there's one less variable that needs to be kept track of in controlling the weather.

Wanna Dance?

I seriously doubt that Equestria would be like the artificial world seen in Golden Sun (Seriously, a flat slab continent held together by the Power Of Alchemy? I call artificial unless you have a working mathematical model!), since some of the distance shots seem to suggest planetary curvature.

@Ace Of course. I was merely postulating that if the solar system was geocentric and the planet didn't rotate, then the Coriolis Effect would not occur. I still think that the planet is round.

But the parts of Cloudsdale aren't connected, so they can easily be moved one at a time.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

I expect that Cloudsdale is actually modular, with different cloud "buildings" detachable from a central hub. The Weather Factory is probably detachable or has a "portable" self-contained subsection that can be used to send moisture to frontier towns in a hurry.

That sounds about right. If they have to move the whole thing a modular design would make it easier to put stuff back where it's supposed to go.

I was actually thinking about how other races around the world saw the Nightmare Moon incidents earlier. I can imagine the Griffin Nation referring to the event as "The Never Ending Twilight", or something similar, if we assume that they're about as far away as Europe is from the United States, while a nation on the exact opposite side of the world would have legends of the day that never ended.

I never thought of that. I wonder if they'll ever address it.

There is no nation on the opposite side of the world. They all died of heat stroke.

@Lurker: So different places would have different legends around the incident? If they ever address it it would be a great anthology episode. They could call it Legends of the Moon.

That also raises the question of what Discord was doing with the sun and moon.

Now that would be great material for worldbuilding, other cultures outside of Equestria.

I know there exists a genderbent Cadence picture, but I can't find any that's worksafe. I know of one picture, but it's very not worksafe. And, uh... don't ask me how I know about that picture.
