@ Psi, portal to hell, mind rape, implied actual rape given the whole marriage thing, total and complete mental SHATTERING of a young girl (twilight), yeah totaly what people think of when they think MLP.

Admitedly this episode, while rather good, isn't a great example of a taster to viewers expecting it to subvert the usual sickly sweet reputation of the franchise.
Except for the whole attack by evil changelings thing.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

Why is Rarity so hellbent about catching the bouquet (is this the right spelling?)?
Then again, I always did theorize that she is the oldest of the mane cast.

And you the awesome musicy parts.
Vanity/Greed that's why.

Standard cutesy fare interchanges with nightmarish abominations. Disney did it. The original MLP cartoon did for that matter. Didn't change people's opinion of it.

The episode is pretty much a renaissance era Disney piece in terms of quality. Or as close as you can get in 44 minutes

The ending is all happy sweet, but everything before that is pretty intense. The scene of the Changelings breaking the shield is awesomely dramatic.

I think it's the songs and the slightly sickly tone of Twilight's relationship with her brother that's a bit off putting.
It manages to be both the creepiest AND cutesiest episode so far.

Except it was just the villain that was dark and that was only G1 which really wasn't that bad and is not what people think of when they try to decry MLP as girly sickly Sugar Bowl it's G3 that's that.
G1 suffers more from being an 80's saturday morning cartoon then it does being a girls show.
which song the incredibly heartwarming, moving and sweetly touching song about missing your sibling
the flat out AMAZING villain/love song.
Or the upbeat, increadably great, day is saved and we got out happy ending song?

@Psi: I don't suppose that you got around to listening to This Day Aria, have you?

@d Roy - Traditional superstition holds that whoever catches the bouquet is most likely to get married next. Rarity really really wants a stallion.

Okay. I finished the episode. I finished the season.
This episode. I can just see that the creators did an absolutely amazing work. The visual, the animation, the music, they were all great.
I didn't find this episode any particularly better than a good standalone episode.
I don't know. Maybe I just don't have the good sense to appreciate a great episode. Maybe the time, genius, and dedication wasted to a philistine like me.
Again, this isn't anything about the episode; it's just me.

this far and away averted any of what your saying it didn't.
it is pure epic awesome, the only issue is it didn't have enough time to go so far beyond just awesome.
plus you didn't have the month or so of buildup and hype getting you exctied for it before watchig it.
