Well, when you have 2 episodes to work with, there isn't nearly enough time to resolve a villain without being mildly anticlimactic.
I like the idea that Cadence and SA inadvertently created a
magical feedback loop.

Ya know, I can't help but facepalm whenever I still see people on DA accusing Candance of being a Mary Sue even after the episode came out.-_-
She isn't exactly developed in terms of flaws, but that's more due to the fact most of her screentime was done via an imposter.

It's really subjective, so I don't really bother.
I still have my personal headcanon of how she got Luna out if the way for the episode:
My headcanon is that she just slept through everything. The fanart is too cute to resist anyway.

Admitedly this episode, while rather good, isn't a great example of a taster to viewers expecting it to subvert the usual sickly sweet reputation of the franchise.
